Error drawing using Direct 3D (device lost) - and hangs MC
« on: June 18, 2010, 06:07:47 am »

Hi all,

If I am looking at playing now in theater view, playing shuffled mp3's, all is well with the cover art showing. This is on my second screen.
If I lock the computer and then unlock it (after 5 mins or so) the cover art has frozen at the song I was playing when I locked the computer.
Soon after this if I navigate away from playing now MC15 locks up, pressing esc key caused 'Error drawing using Direct 3D (device lost)'.

Build 58 of MC15.

If I do the same on the main screen I get the same error briefly but MC15 recovers and the screen is redrawn with the proper cover art.

Anybody else seen this?

Did you try updating the video driver?

Does it happen after the screensaver is triggered?

Hi Jim,

This is on my Toshiba Tecra M5 work laptop which uses the Nvidia windows 7 native drivers. Tosh have not supplied any updates. I will try this on my system at home to see if this is just my laptop at fault. I take it you can't see this behavior in the office?

Once the device is lost, can you manually exit Theater View (escape key) then show Theater View again or do you have to restart the program (or even computer)?

We try to recover from a lost device automatically.  I can't think why it would work on one monitor but not the other.  We'll do some more testing on our side as well.

Hi Matt,

When the device is lost I can't exit from theater view. MC locks. I don't have to restart the computer just MC.

We haven't been able to reproduce this.  We've tried three different versions of Windows.

After coming back from a Lock, the device is lost but the program quickly recovers and the Theater View display comes back.

You mentioned latest drivers, but try getting the drivers straight from nVidia if you're currently using Windows Update.

Any other clues?

Thanks.
