Can't convert audio
« on: June 20, 2010, 03:56:41 am »

For a while now with MC 15 builds I haven't been able to convert audio successfully. I'm trying to convert some M4A files to WMA and it always fails. I also tried converting to APE, which also failed. I was able to successfully convert to MP3 for some reason.

Is there any way to diagnose this problem? Converting from M4A used to always work fine for me.

I found one other problem with M4A files. When I try the Analyze Audio function on them MC crashes.

Try the wiki.  There's an article called "MP4 and M4A".

Unfortunately the wiki article didn't help, and as I mentioned before, this used to work fine. I should also mention that I can play the files just fine.

If you process only one file at a time, does it work?

Analyzing the files worked fine when I tried this time. Interestingly they showed up as already analyzed, although I forced a re-analysis just to test it. I don't know when/why they became analyzed. I did play the tracks in question recently, does that cause them to be analyzed?

As for converting, this still does not work, even when I try just a single track.

Are you using the latest build of MC?

If you have issue with the latest build, email me a log of the following events:

First, play a track (making sure it is played in J River audio engine (using DirectShow filters)).
Then try converting the file.

Thanks for the log.  I confirm there is a problem.

While I try figuring out a fix, you can use the following work-around:

Select DC-BASS Source filter,  or Haali Media Splitter AND FFDShow Audio decoder in your filter chain.

Whatever source filter that you selected could not be loaded.  The system ended up loading Haali Media Splitter, which is OK, and Microsoft DTV-DVD audio decoder, which refused to work with our converter.  So if  you make sure that the Microsoft filter is not in the filter chain, conversion should work fine.

Using Haali Media Splitter AND FFDShow Audio decoder works. Thanks.
