Hello,

Just did a fresh rebuild of a new workstation using 15.0.73. I ma trying to get my video library going - all files are in MKV format and I am using the K-Lite 6.10 Standard pack. Under Video for MKV playback - I have the following set:

Source Filter: Haali Media Splitter
Other Filters: ffdshow Video, ffdShow Audio and ffdShow Subtitles
Video Renderer: Haali Video Renderer.

This settings were taken from another post - where the poster seemed to suggest they were solid.

However - after making said settings - and selecting a movie file to play - MC immediately crashes hard. Not a single file will play. Can anyone get me squared around? Is K-Lite viable or should I be using Shark 007 or something else?

Appreciate any tips n trix!

Try removing FFDShow Subtitles filter and using EVR instead of Haali Video Renderer.

What do you mean when you say "crashes hard".  PC is frozen?  That's a driver or hardware problem.

No. When I click Play to play the video file - theater view comes up with a large cover graphic and then I get:

Media Center has stopped working. A problem casued the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. And a Close button is available. Click it and MC is gone....

MC is working great with all my music etc. And Media Center Classic plays all the MKV's with no issue...so it must be a settings issue within MC for MKV playback....

Ideas?

It could be a bad filters.  CCCP usually works, but MKV is a container format.  Anything could be inside it.

Can you help me with standard filter settings for MKV within MC? If the application supports MKV - there must be a standard filter set...yes? No?

No.  Since you don't know what's in the container.

You could try MC's automatic setting for the filetype.

You could read about MKV.  Maybe wikipedia would help.

Video Renderer: Automatic

I went ahead and purchased CoreAVC and it's working excellent now

Source Filter = Auto
Other Filters = CoreAVC
Video Renderer = Nothing
