Control MC 15 from another network computer
« on: July 12, 2010, 02:13:09 pm »

I had an idea of how to play my FLAC music collection in the living room. I planned to set up a dedicated music server in the basement running J River 15. From this server I can run XLR cables directly through the living room into my stereo.

Problem is - how do I select songs to play etc?

I remember about 4-5 months ago I saw a youtube clib showing a new feature in J River. A laptop could control another computer running J River that was hooked up to a stereo. I.e. whatever the user would do in J River, would be replicated on the server, so that way one could select songs etc.

This was not remote desktop/VNC etc.

I cannot find the clip or any info on the net. Can someone help me with this? My plan was to use an Asus eee touchscreen netbook to control the basement server.

Please try WebRemote or Tremote.  The video was Tremote.

Tremote looks like what I'm after. Thanks a lot!

I want to get a device to control the j river server through tremote. I then need to install J River (I don't like the interface of Webremote), but what are the minimum requirements? Can I install J River on Windows CE?

I want to get a touch tablet at the lowest cost possible. Can Webremote look similar to Theaterview with a skin modification? It seems it would be hard to browse through a large collection using Webremote, but then I could get a low cost Android device.

You would need a machine that can run Windows, not just CE.  XP, Vista, or Win7 should all work.  You should probably test it first, since some low-powered devices may not handle 3D graphics well.

WebRemote could not be made to look exactly like Theater View, but it could resemble most any web page.  You can see the code here:
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 15\Data\WebRemote

My situation is that I would like to utilize other PCs to connect to my MC server, via a browser and have it look similar to the way my server is setup.
