I think the Western Digital boxes are DLNA-ready. They have a few versions.

I had one but the non-ethernet version. The stock interface worked well enough, but seemed like a 5 year old designed it, coming from MC.

A device that pushed the MC gui to DLNA TVs would be ....unstoppable.  ;D

ok... i thought thats what dlna was... so basically all these dlna companies just give you access to there gui's?  yeah i'm not even going to go there. i'll just wait it out. or have to buy pc's for each place. im not about to have different interfaces in each room.

Thanks

I don't know, so don't take my word for it. I don't own the WD anymore, or a PS3, or a DLNA-ready TV. I just push to a small client for my hifi and 2 channel movies.

To expand on the original question, what is the best way to get my recorded TV playing on a TV in another room?  I don't necessarily need the MC interface, as long as I can easily select recorded TV on the server, and have it playback on the TV, that's enough for now.  advancing and pausing would be nice also.  maybe someday I'll install speakers and music playback would be nice also, but using an extra TV is the main goal for now.  Using webremote might work as the controller, i've never tried it with sending TV to a remote zone for playback.

I don't have computer in there, and don't want to buy a 50' DHMI cable (and run it thru the hot attic) to the TV, but it might be the cheapest way to connect it.  an xbox should be cheap enough, as suggested above, but i still have to connect it to the library server, and I don't know if that can be wireless, or if I'm still running a cable to the xbox, then another to the TV.

Are there any other somewhat easy or cheap options I'm not thinking of, or not mentioned above?

I am using a WDTV Live and accessing a MC library on it.  Being able to customize the view schemes in JRiver makes the WDTV a lot easier to use than with the stock WDTV interface and network shares.  Overall I am quite impressed with the little WDTV box.  I also had an old XBox running XBMC but I am trying to stick with HD for any newly acquired video and the XBox just couldn't handle the HD content.

Ecost has the WDAVN00BN refurb for $45. It looks the same size as the one we have but it's not the exact same model. I'd look up some reviews before buying...

I think that is the WDTV non-Networked model:

WDTV - USB attached storage only
WDTV Live - USB + wireless + cat5
WDTV Live Plus  - USB + Netorked + NetFlix streaming enabled

I always try to avoid wireless when I can - especially if its going to involve large data transfers, so mine are hardwired (and are flawless).  Also just an FYI: to use wireless you need to purchase a USB wireless adapter and plug it into the WDTV.  They have some tested and approved adapters on the support website.

No.  It will show its own interface, which is very simple.  No device other than a PC running MC will show TheaterView's interface.

$%*&  Grrr Ok Thanks Jim

i guess i'll be buying lots of pc's, suppose little shuttles would work.

Out of curiosity is it possible for theaterview to throw its interface to tv's\tablets maybe in the future? or would one always have to have jriver on every OS device in every room?
