ok i created one. but dont see anywhere in jriver to set settings? or how to do this scrobbiling thing, etc...

Does it actually tag our music properly as well? or just find similiar music?
am i not seeing settings, scrobbler etc for JRiver because ive not payed for lastfm subscription?

Hi xtacbyme - I'm not in front of a PC but I'm sure someone else can point in in the right direction on settings etc in MC.

You have two options in MC with LastFM
1) Scrobbling:  This is where MC sends the Track Name, Album, Artist of what you are currently playing to LastFM.  It then keeps a track of this info and builds up a profile of your listening habits.  Based on this info and that collected from all others LastFM can then recommend others bands you may like, see others with similar tastes etc
2) Radio:  If you are a subscriber you can also use LastFM to play a "Radio" station to your PC (MP3 128kbps) based on your library, a seeded track etc etc.

Last.fm configuration:Tools > Options > Services >Last.fm configuration.

To enable scrobbling: Right-click on the two words entitled Playing Now in the left column listing> Scrobble 'Listening To'
or
To enable scrobbling: Player (menu item) > Playing Now (menu item) > Scrobble 'Listening To'

Note: If you ever get the message that Last.FM doesn't recognize you as a subscriber it is because you didn't subscribe or you forgot to extend your subscription.  Go to the Last.FM web site and pay the $3.00 per month fee, it is well worth the price.


After you have paid your subscription fee check to see that Last.FM has recognized what you wanted done.  Log on to your Last.FM account on their web site then look underneath the "Hi [your name]" greeting.   You will see "Your profile | Settings | Inbox".  Click on Settings and Last.FM will take you to another window with several tabs:
Account / Website / Email / Privacy / Password / Subscription / Data / Applications

Activate the Subscription tab and verify that you have paid your subscription.

Activate the Applications tab and verify that you have JRiver Media software connected to your Last.fm profile.

Chances are this is never going to happen but if you have paid your $3.00 per month subscriber's fee and Last.FM doesn’t recognize you as a subscriber, then you may have to use this fix.  Don't worry about this happening to you but you'll be thankful you have this fix should you need it.

The usual precautions apply when using Regedit.
Go to the following Properties folder in your registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Media Center 15\Properties

When you reach that particular Properties folder look in the right pane of Regedit.
Remove all settings that start with "Last.fm".
Then restart your computer and try again.


Explore Last.FM's website, many features.  They are a class act, as is the JRiver Media Center.

When I select "Connect to last.fm account" in tools\options, I an error dialog saying that "this file does not have a program associated with it..."

Does this mean that mc fails to invoke the browser or something?

That should open your IE browser.  Maybe a popup blocker or similar is preventing it.

Deselecting the popup blocker in ie does not solve this.

But the rest of the message I'm receiving is: "... create an association in the folder options control panel".

Does a browser window open?  Wait a while.  It can be slow.

I think your system may not have a properly installed / registered browser.

As a simple test, enter this in the 'Run' box (Start Menu > Run):
http://www.google.com

If it doesn't open a browser, it means any time Media Center tries to show a webpage, it will fail.

Reselecting IE as the default browser fixed this. (in control panel\internet options\programs)
