Unable to save VST plugins presets
« on: August 26, 2010, 02:58:59 pm »

I have the Fabfilter Pro-Q VST plugin.

It load very well in MC 15.0.95 but I can't save any preset with the host. Same thing with all the other VST plugins I've tried.

It used to work in previous versions.

Any ideas?

Are you using the 'Load' and 'Save' buttons at the top right of the VST plugin view?

I just tried a few VSTs and they work for me.

Are there any free VSTs showing the problem that I could test with?

Thanks.

Hi Matt,

Yes I'm using the Load and Save buttons.

One on my plugin has the same kind directly inside its window.  I can save the preset, but MC wont remember it when restarting.  I have to manually select the preset each time I restart MC.

Weird because it used to work fine before.

I will try to reinstall the plugins.

I'll let you know.

There are two ways to save data for a VST: parameters or chunks.

We used to only support parameter-style plugins, but build 93 added support for chunk-style settings.

I can't think why this would cause a problem for older style plugins unless they report they support chunks (effFlagsProgramChunks) but then do not do it properly?

No Luck ?

The load button seem to work, but I have no preset to load!

When I press the save button, noting happens.  No drop down menu nor window.

I can't type noting in the preset select bar.

Where the VST Host preset folder is located?

That means we're not getting anything from the plugin to save.

Would you be willing to email me a copy of the plugin you're testing with?  I'm matt at jriver dot com.  I'll delete it when I'm done testing.

Thanks.

You can download a fully functional demo at http://www.fabfilter.com/download

Thank you.

Thanks.

Look for a fix in build 101:
Fixed: Saving presets was not working with some VST plugins.

Matt,

is the loading of Console also fixed in the latest builds?

Matt,

Sorry, but I don't know.

Console is a problematic plugin as it creates UI before it's been asked and doesn't honor the parent window we provide.  I've posted a few more technical details about this in the past.

I did have it working (other than the issues mentioned above), but my trial used for testing has since run out.

Please test when 101 is available and let us know what you find.  Thanks.

ok thanks will do.

However, since it would load prior to ver 95, you had it working and the error that is given when MC tries to load Console is a MS runtime error, could it be that you have a different version of the MS runtime?

What runtime version do you have installed?

Thanks so much Matt!

Everything is now working like a charm  ;D

This really is the best media center thanks to your fantastic support center.

Good work!

HI

Console still won't load in build 101. I get a popup error saying that the application requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way. Contact the application developers.

Matt, since you said that you had it working, is it worth uninstalling/reinstalling MC?

What MS runtime version are you using?

HI

Uninstalling and reinstalling MC fixed the problem where Console wouldn't load.

However, Console still doesn't remember the settings, like it does in other vst hosts.

Is there anything I have to do to get it to load the previous settings? (save and load preset in DSP manager seems to do nothing)

Finally got it to work. Had to save the preset as the default name of 'My Preset'.

Might have been helpful if 'My Preset' was called default.

Even though it now does what I want it to do, there are still several bugs.

Firstly, if you save a preset as another name, it won't load.

Further, with Console loaded in DSP manager, trying to open the DSP manager window is problematic - first it comes up with a minimised blank window. This needs to be closed, then opening DSP manager again works.
