Linked Zone timing is different for each song
« on: August 28, 2010, 02:09:13 pm »

Hey guys,

I thought I had my linked zone timing down perfect, but the next time I tried to play them linked, they were off.  I let it run through about ten songs and some of teh songs area perfect, some are early, and some are late???

Any idea what could be causing this?  I can't think of any reason why this would happen, and I can find very little about link timing.

Thanks

What zones are you linking?  DLNA devices won't work yet.

It's two zones both playing off the same card. I even had one point they showed as linked but were on two different songs.

If you pause and unpause, does the sync improve?

Are you playing local files or files on a server that could be slow?

What are you using for between tracks settings (ie. crossfade, etc.)?

Thanks.

I'll check the pause and unpause this weekend (I won't be back to the PC till then)

Local files

4 second cross fade (aggressive) - the default setting

I was using quicktime for M4A files (I have since changed this) could that have been the problem?

Yes, that's a problem.  Only files played through our audio engine can be controlled with the precision necessary for zone linking.

You might investigate M4A DirectShow filters for enabling native playback of M4A.  There is more information in the wiki.

However, you will get the best results with files where we can perform block-perfect seeks (APE, WAV, MP3, FLAC).

Thanks.

Gotcha, I just got the direct show filters installed today (remotely).  I'll work on getting the files converted over to a different format too.  I think i needed the filters just to do the conversions anyway.

Thanks
