Library authentication and Webplay
« on: October 31, 2010, 05:00:06 pm »

I've just been doing some tagging using a client. This worked well in version 15.0.136.

The latest version (15.0.142) insists that authentication must be enabled on the server. When authentication is enabled on the server I can update the library from a client, but it breaks my remote control using a full screen Webremote web page in HSTouch.

Is it possible to send authentication credentials in the WebRemote URL? Or perhaps revert to enabling library updates without authentication being necessary.

This area is evolving.  Library Server clients can now delete files, so authentication is essential.  WebRemote should still work though.  If not, we'll fix it.

Yes, I understand why you've implemented authentication and it's necessary if your copy of Library server is open to the internet or accessible by people who may not have the best intentions. However, it is overkill for a closed system that is only accessed by a small number of trustworthy people!

Webremote works if you access it through a standard browser, you just have to go through a clunky dialogue box. I am trying to use a reasonably integrated remote system which displays a web page as a button on a screen. This does not go through the security credentials dialogue box, just refuses to display the page, which is why I asked if it was possible to append the credentials to a URL.

Until now it has worked very well, it's the most usable remote system that I've found.

I'll just have to VNC into the server and enable authentication if I want to do any client side tagging.
