When trying to install MC15/161 on windows 7 I get the message JRImage.dll in use?
The actual message is "Install wizard could not copy necessary files to the destination folder
Please ensure the the file "[install path]c:\program files \j river\media center 15\JRImage.dll" is not in use

tried that, nothing, also uninstalled, re-installed, etc. nothing appears to work.  I have this problem on two machines, one stand alone windows 7 and one a dual boot xp and windows 7.

Are you doing a portable install, or do you have any security software installed that might interfere with an installation?

Does installing a build or two back work, like the version here:
http://www.jriver.com/download.html

We changed how paths are stored in options recently, so I'm a little suspicious that the change is to blame.

I am getting the same exact message as TXgary when trying to install MC15/161 on a fresh Win7 install.

After finding this thread, I tried installing other builds as suggested.  No version of MC15/14/13 worked until for the heck of it, I tried installing MC11.  It worked - then I installed MC13, uninstalled it and then installed MC14.0.165 which works.  I had hopes, but several older versions of MC15 still won't install (same message).

Build 159 will not install as well - same problem.  And I cannot uninstall 15/161

This will be fixed in a coming build.

If you have the problem, you will need to do an uninstall, reboot, then install build 159 or a build newer than 161 (available later this week).

I believe only build 160 and 161 have the problem.  But like I said, once you see this, it's because options in the registry are wrong, so it will require an uninstall and reinstall of a fixed build to correct the issue.

One of the machines is dual boot xp pro and windows 7.
Will not install in win7 but will install fine in xp pro.
I suspect it has to do with the way win7 handles paths.
On the win7 only machine, I could not uninstall MC15 so I did a system restore, all went fine and installed MC15/159 and that was successful.  I will wait for the new build.

Same here, MC15 will not uninstall - I will do the system restore tonight and install 159.  Thanks.

ok, installed 163 over 159. closed MC and restarted MC.
Shows nothing in MC? the database does not load. It starts auto adding what it searches for.
I restored the database backed up in 159. then closed and restarted MC/163 but no database when I restart.
I tried this multiple times.
Also, in 159, I have problems on several occasions when restarting MC15 it would start without the library?
Is this a known problem or something I am doing wrong?

When you uninstall, there are options to remove the User Settings and/or the Library files.  Just don't enable either of these options.  I don't think it will remove your licensing either way, but even if it did, getting it re-registered is no big deal.

I uninstalled 15 - reinstalled 15/163 and restored to last known good library.
closed mc and reopened.  Nothing......
I guess 163 is not for me as yet.
I59 loses it's database from time to time.

To be clear, the process you need to use to fix this problem is this:

1. Go to "Uninstall a Program" in the Control Panel and Uninstall MC 15.  Make sure to UNCHECK both boxes during the uninstall process to preserve your library and your settings.
2. REBOOT!!  DO NOT SKIP THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE LAZY.
3. Download 15.0.163 or later and install that.

You should NOT have to restore your library or anything like that.  If you don't reboot while MC is uninstalled, it will not fix the problem, and you'll have to do it again.

did EVERYTHING you said. when i restart, there is NO database....
so I restore from last backup. then the MC opens as one MC logo and nothing on the left side (playlist, audio, etc).  Not sure what is going on...
Any other ideas?

So, that doesn't sound like it is crashing.  Can you take a screenshot of what you see when MC gets up and running?

No it is not crashing.
The restore works fine with all the data there, and I close out then restart and no database.  I then restore again and all is there until I close MC and reopen it, then no data.

Okay, so this is different than your original issue.  This issue is almost certainly a permissions issue in your AppData folder structure.

Where is the Library Stored?  Go to File -> Library -> Load Library -> Library Manager.  Then in the dialog that appears, select the line with the yellow arrow next to it and tell me what the Location says.  You may need to select it and hit the edit button, and then click the Browse button to see and copy/paste the full location path.

It may also be useful to know if you have multiple entries in the Library Manager, or only the default library.

The default library SHOULD be located here on Windows 7:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 15\Library

I am sure it is a permissions problem, but I have not had that problem with 14
