Simple UPNP device with Theater View GUI....does it exist?
« on: January 07, 2011, 08:42:37 am »

Heres what I am looking to do.

I'd like to have a device that is always on. Hooked to my AV reciever.

Shows the MC Theatre View GUI. Uses a remote.

Easy to use and set up.

The basic idea is that my wife and kids could turn on TV, hit MUSIC on the master remote, reciever and TV will turn to this device, and they can play music from my library. I know it wouldn't be the greatest for browsing 7K files, but even the ability to quickly start a play list would be great. The key is having the MC Theater View interface.

I also have a PC hooked up via HDMI, but want something where I don't have to touch a mouse or keyboard. Just plop down on couch and start some tunes. Seems simple?

Years ago I had a D-Link DSM-320. It worked O.K. but was pretty buggy. It eventaully died and I haven't replaced it.

Are there any devices that will accomplish this today? Is the DSM-520 a solution? I've been trying to research but not had much luck. Everything seems to be DLNA, but that seems pretty buggy too.

Any advice?

How about this:

Gizmo (our app, part of MC15) is shown on the Samsung Tab.

JRiver Id is our new device.

DLNA is a superset of UPnP.  You can read about it on our wiki.
