MC16 - where is the Library Manager ?
« on: February 19, 2011, 10:17:04 am »

I come come directly from MC14 to MC16.
Restoring a MC14 backup in MC16 was successful,
but I'm completely confused about whre the library is located abd I'm desperately missing the library manager to organize my different libraries.
Ist the manager simply missing - or is there another concept ?
Please help ?

Go to File-->Library on the top.

Look under Playing Now and try right clicking.  It's not yet complete, but it will replace Library Manager.

Hi Randy, Jim,

thanks for your replies !

to Randy:
I cannot find anything under "File" -> "Library" - nothing like the manager I have in MC14

as to Jim:
I can see the "zone" concept by right clicking "playing now" - but this is not what I am looking for, or maybe I don't understand.

Maybe it's better I try to explain the way I use MC:
(nothing with Video, TV, DLNA, etc - I just use it for my audio files.)
I have a netbook with a big external harddisk as a music server - containing all "cleaned-up" files, running my  Logitech/Sequeezebox server software.
I manage the files on the server by using a specified MC-Library - located on my "Main-PC".
In addition to that I have dedicated other libraries on that PC
1. for doing everything related with ripping and converting my own CDs
2. for cleaning and tagging all downloaded stuff
3. for handling local subsets of the "whole library" I re-import from the server to the main PC
I would really like to keep those libraries seperated - with the option for different settings, not having to handle all 200.000 + files on the server - so it's fast, containing only the files I work on currently. After shifting the "cleaned-up" files to the server they are gone from the local PC and gone from the dedicated libraries - keeping everything fast and simple and (most important) not interfering with any file on the server or the "main" library
And I am also in the driver's seat choosing the location where the libraries are located - not in anything deep hidden path like "C\users\ ..." (where you don't automatically know where), but on a dedicated hardisk for audio files in a folder on top of the tree, easy to access for a simple manual backup every now and then.

So for now I found a workaround - generating new libraries from scratch and copying all the files from the MC14 libraries manually into the new MC16 folders. But I am not sure if there might anything "go wrong" with this approach.
Anyway I cannot rename any of those new libraries, nor can I delete one.
I really, really would like to have the "old" library manager back.

Please let me know if I am missing something - or if I should think of a different approach.

I also have another wish for the next updates:
"Rename, Move & Copy" is automatically set to "Rename" which also means moving the files to a new location if boxes for directories are checked. I really would like to have an option in the setting section to choose "Copy" as the standard. Would this be possible ?

LedZep, the library manager seems to have moved to Tools->Options in MC16

Well no, non of the functions previously found in the library manager now represented in the options dialog ?!

All functions of the library manager are represented under File->library or in the tree.

Perhaps not the best place to post this but since it's been mentioned:

I have wished for this too, as well as an MRU for the past several folder selections as I have two or three locations that I copy or move files to.

Thanks for your input !

I found the library options for renaming and deleting finally.
I just didn't realize to click on the line "playing from 'current library'" (just opened "playing now")
Anyway it doesn't seem to be the right logical place for me - I would rather prefer a dedicated "library section" under options or so.

And in addition to AoXoMoXoA's reply, a "memory function" for the last searches would be of great help !
