Main Library will not load following upgrade
« on: February 28, 2011, 08:39:44 am »

I just downloaded 16.0.39 (upgrading from 13.0.172). I'm now getting a message as follows:

There was a problem loading the library 'Main Library'.

Please ensure that you have access to the library folder:
c:/\\Users\.....

I'm than given three choices: Retry, Restore, or Clear.

I select Retry, click ok and the same window reappears.

What should I be trying? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I upgrade from MC15 to MC16 and am having the same problem and error on my clients.  The main server finds its own library just fine.  Is your problem on a client machine?

I don't have a solution for this either.  So far I have kept my entire home network running MC15 because of this.

Please try the build at the top of the MC16 board.  It's 16.0.55.

already tried 16.0.54.  No luck.  Also tried clearing MC16 library and reimporting my music.  No luck.  Server MC16 can see the music library fine.  All clients report not being able to connect to the server library.  MC15 works fine on all clients and server.

There was a problem loading the library 'Main Library'.

Please ensure that you have access to the library folder:
c:/\\Users\.....

This can't be valid. (To J River: ...or is C:/\\  something that MC uses internally?)

Did you try "Clear"? It would start with a new library, but I don't know if it would reset the possibly incorrect path.

Can the "clients" use the local Main Library correctly? The server connection problem is a different issue.

There is no reason to clear anything if the server library works on the server. Only the connection problem must be solved.

Yes the clients can see there own local main library.  Which since all of my music is stored on my server is very small.

I don't think the server connection and library loading part has fundamentally changed in MC16.

Perhaps you have given MC15 firewall permissions that MC16 does not have yet.

How do you try to load the server library and what exactly happens then? Did you try to use the Access Key system? Have you tried a different port setting?

Windows firewall is turned off on both the server and the clients.  (My local LAN sits behind a dedicated firewall to the internet).

I have tried both searching with the access token and setting up my clients to point to 192.168.x.x:52199.  The 192.168.x.x:52199 is how things are working in MC15.

see attached for the error message.

Ok, at least for me I am now running ok with MC16.  I don't know why, but MC16 clients do not like to connect to the 10/100/1000 Ethernet with jumbo packets enabled interface of my server.  When I pointed the clients at the IP address of my 2nd 10/100 ethernet interface that I have for admin on my server the server library connection worked fine.

With MC15, either interface worked fine.

There is a similar problem in the Weird Problems thread in my signature.

I don't think this is an MC problem.

maybe so, but it all worked fine with MC15 under exactly the same hardware, software, network conditions.  The only change was upgrading to MC16.
