hey everyone, always been a fan of the media player, its a great movie player/organizer and i couldnt work around my pc without it. but i just installed the newer version 16.0.64 and all the videos (good quality mpg avi full movies etc) have a kind of slice or line going right through the middle. it looks like the video is sliced horizontally through the middle and the two halves are not lining up correctly. i tried reinstalling many times and also messing with the playback options but i dont know what i'm doing when it comes to that.

any help would be greatly appreciated, been a fan for years and havent found another media center that can touch j river! but this line gets terrible at some points...

To me it sounds like "tearing", post more details:
1) a screen shot if you can
2) the details of the filters you are using (right click on the playing video --> direct show filters --> copy graph info to clipboard and past here)
3) what HW config do you have? CPU/GPU info

If it is "tearing" then it is neither your source video or MC that is the issue but that the combination of video filters (decoders and renderers) and the GPU on your laptop are struggling to keep up and you are getting part of one frame and part of the next hence the not quite lined up look.

You could try another renderer. Earlier the only modern renderer that did not produce tearing with my HW was haali renderer. Some time ago I switched to madVR renderer which also is tearing free for me.
You can try different renderers for different file types (or/and set default renderer) in Tools -> Options -> Video
