CD Rip Speed

I'm interested in turbo-charging CD Rip Speeds. I only have 300 albums left to do!  :o

Please see below and if you have any ideas how I can speed this up in MC or if MM will produce the same results as MC but faster, then I'm happy to use that to get the job done.

Q's are:

- Why is MM faster?
- Why are the files slightly smaller from MM?
- But ultimately does MM produce the same quality results as MM but faster?

Rip Times - Random 15 Track CD, Ripping To Flac:

MC - 12.12
MM - 2.23

Random Track File Sizes As Flac:

MC:

- 14.0 MB
- 34.9 MB
- 28.8 MB

MM:

- 13.8 MB
- 34.4 MB
- 28.4 MB

JRiver rips in "secure" mode by default.  That reads several times to make sure the data agrees.  You could turn it off for faster rips.  For discs in good condition, it will probably work fine.

The size difference may be cover art.  Cover art lookup also takes time.

MM is probably ripping in a burst mode that does no attempt to detect or correct errors.
MC with secure mode that detects errors and does re-reads

One option would be to try EAC (exact audio copy).  EAC will check rips against a database called AccurateRip to check if a rip matches against previous rips.  EAC can also be set to rip in burst mode.  So for speed you can configure EAC to rip in burst mode and compare against AccurateRip.  If a burst mode rip fails AccurateRip you can put it in a separate pile and re-rip it later using secure mode.  I don't know what percentage of discs might have errors when ripped in burst mode.  Would depend on your drive, the condition of the discs, and whether you have CDs with some sort of copy protection scheme.  Even a disc that looks clean can have errors when ripped in burst mode.

I always rip using secure mode.  I want to catch errors even if it means it takes longer to rip.

Thanks guys. Agree secure rips every time. 700 plus CDs all done. Never Again!
