Filter Tweaking with build 99
« on: May 27, 2011, 02:50:26 pm »

1. Changed: With Red October turned off, DirectShow graph building is back to the Merit based "smart" rendering style using user selected custom filters.
2. Changed: New option "Use additional custom filters for Red October" under the Red October checkbox in Options/Video. (Whitelist)

That's backwards from what I expected, but is probably fine.  Can you describe what exactly option #2 does?

Option #2 only affects Red October mode.

1. Off = only the standard J River filter pack will be used
2. On = other filters selected by the user will be used if they're in the 'whitelist'

Ahh... That actually makes a lot of sense.  So now you WILL be able to use the "advanced" configuration while Red October is turned on, it will just be limited to "known safe" filters.  If RO is off, then it'll work like it used to.

That's great.

I have done a quick check. It is still not possible to use eg. another filter than the internal default filter to decode flac files. I tried to select madFlac or ffdshow audio as decoder (under options/File types/Other filters). Trying to play any audio file with an other option than "automatic" results in a program crash.

With video files madFlac is working correctly now - thank you!

That's a great way to do it!

With Red October off, I can't get any filters to work (even whitelisted filters). I get a DirectShow: unspecified error. I tried LAV CUVID, ffdshow audio and video, madFLAC, and LAV audio.

All the decoders I use are whitelisted so it really isn't an issue for me, but I'm sure it will be for someone. Maybe only whitelisted decoders aren't working.

With Red October turned ON, it works fine.

With Red October turned OFF, I can't get it to work.  I tried:

Playback Method: DirectShow
Source: Haali
Other: ffdshow audio and video decoders
Renderer: I tried both Auto and EVR

Doesn't work.  I get the 0x8 unspecified error.

I'm having a similar issue.  I don't know what it's popping up as the dialog goes away too quickly but, with Red October off and my filters set to:

LAV Splitter
PDVD11 video decoder
ffdshow raw video filter
LAV Audio
madVR

It starts to open my MKV, pops up a dialog very quickly, and then jumps back to my library.  I have Red October unchecked and have the advanced function to allow any DS filters unchecked. I was hoping to try and see if the ffdshow raw video filter was indeed whitelisted and working.  JR devs, please let us know if we can be of any help in fixing this or if you need any further information.  Thanks!

It is whitelisted and working. You need Red October and "Use additional custom filters with Red October" checked.

Hmm, ok, will try that.  Thanks!

When this is working right, since it doesn't make sense to have both Red October turned OFF and the "use additional custom filters" turned ON, you should grey-out the second box when the first one is unticked.

Yikes.  I just turned on Red October with the advanced whitelist option and now MC crashes hardcore as soon as I try to play my video.  That seems...ungood.  :)  Not sure what I can provide to help here.

That's part of LAV Splitter 0.28.  I'm, at the moment, using Nev's build for that as I haven't had a chance to pull it down and build it myself.  Will test this config in MPC-HC and see if it has any issues.

UPDATE 2:

Same configuration of splitter/decoders/renderer works in MPC-HC.  I'm at a loss.

DVD playback still broken but different. With RO on does not play. With RO off plays audio with no video.

I am using LAV Splitter 0.27 and am not having any trouble with the latest build. Maybe 0.28 isn't whitelisted yet. I wonder how that works with different versions.

Let's test your theory.  :)  Please hold while I downgrade.....AH CRAP.  Yea, that works with RO on and the advanced whitelist on.  No longer crashing.  HOWEVER, that being said, ffdshow raw video decoder isn't working in the chain.  :(

It will be a specific build that has the green light on the white list.  I believe you could now add 28.

That crash sounds like it somehow managed to load the new LAVSplitter.ax file, but is still using the old ffmpeg dlls.

Um, that's going to pose some serious problems given how much some of these filters are updated.  I build my own, for example, depending on when I have time to pull the code and build it up.  I guess I can turn the whitelist feature off and go that route.  If the whitelist is turned on, does it go and get the whitelisted version of the filters that the user selects?  If not, how will they know if they're truly whitelisted if it's by version?   ?

Hey man, I used your build from the LAV Filters thread so don't blame me!  :p  LOL!  Um, lemme reinstall 0.28 and take a look.  That seems bad though.

Might as well be MC16s fault, if it somehow sets the dll lookup path up weirdly.

So I reinstalled 0.28 from your installer.  All the files are dated/timed the same.  I'm at a loss to explain this one.  If I go back to my last night's build of 0.27, it works. (Other than the aforementioned fact that ffdshow raw video filter still doesn't show up in the chain).

Jim's still moving my posts around.  :D  (Sorry, Jim...just caught it at the wrong time).  Anyway, going back to my 0.27 build from last night works.  Installing your official 0.28 build breaks.  Same location for the install.  I'm not sure what could be causing it.

Like i said, i think its loading the ffmpeg dlls from the MC16-bundled LAV Splitter, which is 0.27, and those will not work with 0.28 anymore, because i added a new function.
Its kinda weird that it has the bundled path higher up in the DLL loading path, it should always prefer the ones in the directory where the .ax is.

Oh I see what you're saying.  That seems incredibly bad, yes.  JR guys, can you confirm/fix this issue?  I know you may have bigger fish to fry with nothing working with the RO option turned off, but, this does seem like a problem, as well.

You were correct, Nev.  I took matters into my own hands and fixed it for build 0.28.  However, nothing I do allows the ffdshow raw video filter to work so that's the biggest issue I'm dealing with right now.  At least now I know how to, um, "work around" old filter problems.  :D

Yup if I get something "different" I keep a copy in my Test "Genre" actually - that way I can just run through this known set with each change.
