Failed to correctly tune to most digital channels
« on: September 01, 2011, 08:57:44 pm »

Hi

I have a Winfast DTV2000DS card, running MC16.0.164. I found the channel scanning didn't find the correct channel frequencies (and presumambly other necessary info to tune) for 45 out of 50 channels. Instead it entered wildly incorrect values for the frequencies.

WMC found them all perfectly.

Is there any information I can provide to help resolve this problem?

Tried it again with 168 - still pulling in incorrect frequencies.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I have noticed now that it happens where multiple digital channels share the same frequency.

Paul,

Would you do some testing for me?  If so, please email me so I can email you a file.

Hi Yaobing

I'm out of the country at the moment, but will be more than happy to help when I am back (20 September).

Thanks Paul.

I will put the code in the next build so you can just run it when you come back.

Sorry to say I can't really see any improvement with the last build.

Paul,

With build 16.0.176, please turn on logging and run a complete channel rescan of your DVB-T channels.  Email the  log to me, and let me know which channels had wrong frequencies.

Thanks for the log.

It appears more channels got wrong frequencies than those that got the right ones  :(

Can you confirm that all of the following do not play?  And do you know the correct frequencies of these channels?

Let me explain a little of what I posted above.

MC tries to tune to a station by setting the tuner to a frequency (Scanning Freq: 704500, for example).  When the tuner locks, MC parses tables obtained from the system for channel details, including the frequency.  Normally we use the parsed frequency because it should be closest to the true frequency.  Apparently this is not the case for you.

I can not imagine why such different frequencies are found in parsed data.  There can be 4 possibilities: 1. MC parsing code; 2. Microsoft bug; 3. Your device's driver bug; 4. TV stations in your area put wrong info in their streams, or they require special handling that we are not aware of.

Since MC works fine in other areas/countries, for example in Melbourne, or Sidney Australia, 1. is an unlikely cause.  So is 2. unless your Windows OS is special.  That leaves 3. and 4 of which I am leaning toward 3.

I modified my post without knowing you were replying.  Please take a look at the last two lines of my previous post, if you have not already done so.

Hi Yaobing

Windows Media Centre tunes perfectly, which suggests the problems doesn't lie with the OS, tuner card or device drivers. Anything I else I can do to help?

Paul.
