Evaluating JR Media Center - TV issues
« on: September 16, 2011, 01:02:50 pm »

Hi
I'm currently looking for a replacement for WMC? JRiver Media is looking really good except I'm not having a lot of luck with TV.
I'm using a Hauppauge HVR-1600 dual tuner. In WMC I'm using 1 tuner for over-the-air HDTV. The other tuner I'm using to capture the analog signal from a DirecTV box, using an IR blaster to change channels. Can I do that in IRiver Media Center?

So far I sort of have the OTA tuner working. However, every time I start Media Center it says there are no channels configued. I have to set them up every time -- and download the guide each time.

The other thing I havn't gotten working is captions/subtitles for TV. This would be pretty much a deal-breaker as my wife is hearing-impaired and relies on them. I tried turning on FFDShow decoder but that crashes MC. In fact, MC crashes a lot just having the TV Options dialog open.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Are you using MC in it's client server mode?  You shouldn't lose the EPG.

MC has logging under Help.  Take a look in the "previous" log after a crash.  You should see it near the bottom of the log.

I have MC16 set up on my Windows Home Server as a server.
The PC in my living room is a client. The TV card is in the Living room PC.
Could the server be wiping out the guide on my living room PC?
Thanks

I think it's the same problem as the one Yaobing is looking at now:

Thanks,
I can confirm that if I switch to local database, channel information & guide are retained.
MC16 still crashes TV Options though.

Just opening the options doesn't do anything special, so causes I can think of are:

1.  WMC is keeping the tuner occupied, and MC can't get it.

2.  Some security program doesn't like MC opening a new window.

3.  A driver issue.  Video or TV.
