Registration Error message
« on: February 21, 2003, 03:35:11 pm »

I've been trying to install Media Center (and previously trying to install MJ) on one machine for months without success, despite intermittent help.

In the most recent version of MC, I'm getting a better error message as I try to restore the license:

"Error restoring Media Center license
BB initializaion failure."

I checked the FAQ and did a search, but couldn't find any matches. Any suggestions on how to proceed from here would be great.

The FAQ is here:

www.mediajukebox.com/license

You may have an old program or a license that isn't valid.

Start by downloading the latest version.

Yes, I did read the FAQ. And the version installed is .118, so it's not that old.

What would help is some idea what "BB initialization error" means.

Ok what version of MJ did You Buy?

If you paid for Version 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Or 6

The License Will Not Work With MJ8 Or MC9

A MJ7 License May Work With MJ8 But Not With MC9

Is your license In A File On A Disk? If So What Is It Called?

The license I purchased is for MJ8. The restore file I have on local disk, from yesterday, is named Media Jukebox8-10390.mjr.

I've literally been trying to get the registration accepted for months (it's a machine I only use on weekends). I keep trying new builds of MC, hoping that somehow a new version of the app will make the problem go away. So far, all I'm getting is a slightly more descriptive error message, as noted above.

Those files are only good for 14 days.  After that, you need to restore from our server.

You must have a current version of 8.0.  8.0.394 is on the downloads page.

Details are here:

www.mediajukebox.com/license

If you think you're doing it right and it still doesn't work, provide more details.  Copy your system info from Help in MJ.

Yes, I know the .mjr files are only good for a short while. That's why I said it was from yesterday.

OK, I uninstalled MC9 v .118, which at least gave me a reasonable error message, and reinstalled MJ8 v .388, which crashes immediately when I try to restore from the .mjr file. That's exactly the same behavior I first related months ago.

I still believe I am taking the proper steps. Here is the system info:

Media Jukebox  8.0.388
Install Path: C:\Program Files\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2228 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 523 MB, Free - 382 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1145
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Thanks for any further ideas.

MJ 8.0.394 took care of a Bug when users tried to registered the program.

OK, thanks for the suggestion. I'm now away from that machine again, so I'll report back next weekend.

Sorry for the hiatus. Still have the same problem.

Uninstalled Media Center. Also deleted all registry references. Rebooted. Got a fresh restore key. Clean install of MJ 80396. Tried to register from the new key and the program crashes immediately. Systeminfo as previously listed.

I have no idea what it could be, never had a remotely similar problem and the machine is pretty vanilla - but this has now been the case for months.

Look, I relize this is a very intermttent thread, but I've now been unable to register for several months, and I've spent a fair amount of time trying. It doesn't seem like it should be that difficult.
