Seperating Audio Books from Audio
« on: October 24, 2011, 02:10:49 am »

Can someone please explain how to tag Audio Books so that  they do not list with my audio.

I am using standard view Panes.

On the left hand side under audio I have audio books then on the right side I have Book Author and Media subtype

This mostly works but there is some music listed underneath and I cant for the life of me figure what tag must be set.

[Media Sub Type] has a value of Audiobook. Assign all of your audiobooks with the Audiobook tag in [Media Sub Type]. Then in your Music view schemes add in a condition of: [Media Sub Type] is not Audiobook .
For your audiobook view scheme just use [Media Sub Type] is Audiobook.

I have tagged all my audiobooks using the Media subtype with (Audiobook).

I need to know how to use Media subtype in my Audio with (Not Audiobook)

Cheers

You don't tag anything with "not audiobook". Instead you filter anything that is not "audiobook" in the viewscheme. That means if something has media type "music" and media subtype "audiobook", it will not appear in the viewscheme. You can leave the media subtype tag blank for all non-audiobooks if you wish.

In the "Set Rules for file display..." dialog box for you view scheme go to Import/Export.

Add
Code: [Select]
-[Media Sub Type]=[Audiobook]to the text you see there.

Press OK.

Once back in the Edit Search dialog box, take note of the rule that has been added. This is generally where you will add this sort of rule yourself.

As fitbrit mentioned, you are creating a rule using the Audiobook tag in the [Media Sub Type] field in order to filter out all files tagged. A tag by itself will not do anything. The rules you create about the tags are what make the magic in view schemes happen.

Perhaps I misunderstood what you are after here. Using the rule I mentioned above, the audiobooks should disappear from any views where you are using that rule.

To create a view that shows the audiobooks, create a new view with the following rule:
Code: [Select]
[Media Sub Type]=[Audiobook](Note the lack of a dash at the beginning, which INCLUDES audiobooks. The rule above contains the dash and will therefore EXCLUDE the audiobooks from the view.)

Does this help, or am I helping to solve a problem that you do not have?

In the audio tree I have audiobooks.

What I am trying to achieve is not have them displayed in Audio but in Audio Books.

You can take one of two approaches:

1) Exclude audio books from your audio views by default (new views and views that inherit from Audio, the parent), but create specific views under Audio that show your audio books.
2) Exclude audio books manually from EACH and EVERY existing view under Audio, and add one or more views that you create to show ONLY audiobooks.

Which one would you prefer?

If you're sure you never want any audio books under Audio EXCEPT for only those views you create, (1) would be your best bet.
If you want to exclude audio books from not only your existing Audio views, but also any new views you create under Audio, (2) would be good.

Select a view, such as Album view and Customize the view.  Set the file types to display as shown, and use the Rule pull-down to select Media Sub Type.  Add the Rule:

Media Sub Type is not Audiobook

OK your way out.  This view will no longer show Audiobooks.

Do the above for every other non-Audiobook view under Audio, where you don't want to see Audiobooks.

Select your Audiobook view (or create one under Audio if you don't have it yet), and make the same customization EXCEPT change the "is not" to "is" for the Media Sub Type rule.  OK your way out.  This view will now show Audiobooks only.
