Library Server connection issue
« on: November 19, 2011, 05:02:12 am »

Long time user, but just using basic Media Player functionality (I'm using the  latest MC17 build having just purchased it).

I'm trying for a better setup with a WHS 2011 server holding all my media files, running Media Server, with the media being made available to MC clients on my network, my PS3, and Gizmo etc. I'm using Sky Broadband with a Sagem router.

My current problem (I've had a few on my journey to this point) is that MC on my server gives me a Libray Server access key (it says that I can use it on my local network, but not via the internet - guess that will be my next problem to solve).

Anyway, when I try to add the library on my client and specify the access key, it attempts to connect, the server IP address is shown, then the gateway IP address, it then retries 4 times and gives up saying 'there was a problem loading the library'.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks
Mick

Welcome to Interact.  That sounds like a firewall probem on one PC or the other.

But read this before you continue:

Yes, thanks Jim, it was the Firewall on WHS blocking it, thanks for the quick reply

You're welcome.  Did you read about WHS2011 and possible metadata loss?
