This might be slightly off topic, but I'm at a loss with my problem.

I've been using MC's mediaserver with no problems whatsoever for some time: just add library on the laptop in the client and fill in the code and away we go on my wireless network.

However: my cableprovider sent me a new router. Let's call this router 'Z'. I put my old router behind it (router 'Y') My laptop can work on both networks provided by these routers. However, I prefer Z as it is faster and has a bigger reach.

The problem now is that I can't connect to MC's server through this network. I can't even ping the host-pc's ip-address.
When I connect my laptop to Y it does succeed.

Can someone give me a hint what I should try? I've tried even with both firewalls switched off - to no avail.

You might try removing your old router and just configuring your new one.

Power everything down, then power devices up from the provider side, one at a time, giving each time to boot.

remember to check that port forwarding between the two routers is set correctly too.

Or remove the cable in the wan connection in router y and put it into a vacant lan connection in router y. Maybe both routers are giving out ip addresses from the same address range. And you should disable dhcp in router y as well.

Thanks for all who gave advises. I tried them all but nothing worked. It's getting even stranger: I've replaced the 'inbetween'-router by a simple switch (that's all it does: switching).
Now when I put my laptop on a cable I can ping the laptop from my main p.c. But my laptop cannot ping the main p.c. And when I pull out the cable and put the laptop on wireless they both can't ping each other.

So I can use MC's server on the laptop when it's on a network cable but not when it's wireless.

I've tried several things in the router setup but am at a loss. Any other suggestions would be highly appreciated.

You need to bridge your wireless connection. It's usually under the wireless settings (dd-wrt and most stock firmware), but it can also be under security or firewall.

This sounds like firewalls. Do you run antivirus/firewall software ?

Do you know for sure that your wireless and your lan is connected ? Is wireless in router Z ?

Well, beats me, but all of a sudden it works. Last night still nothing, this morning I thought to try another few options but before I'd do that I pinged again (like the many times before) and now the computers could see each other.
Strange thing though: the laptops ip-address had changed from, say, 123.456.7.15 to 123.456.7.16...
And the lease couldn't have expired - that's put on 48 hours.

My impression is that my provider has done something with the firmware of my router this night, because other people were having issues with it too.

So (and that's why I wanted this home network to work in the first place): MC Server works again!
