I already think that MC can play Apple Lossless as the extension is m4a and is listed under file types, which I believe is Apple Lossless..

But you can't convert files to m4a.. Now that Apple Lossless has been made open source will there be future support to convert files to Apple Lossless? (I'm assuming MC couldn't do this before because Apple Lossless was previously closed source..)

I'm only wondering (As I am a Flac man myself) Is that my girlfriend has an Ipod, and as far as I know Flacs don't play on them..

Oh and one other question instead of opening a new thread..

If I were syncing an Ipod with MC.. If I chose to sync Flacs, does MC convert the files on the fly to a supported format for the Ipod?? Or would it just copy the unplayable Flacs?? Do I have to do a manual conversion first?

Apple lossless is ALAC.

No, but WAV files will.  So will AIFF, Apple's WAV equivalent.  MC can convert to WAV, probably to AIFF.

IF the iPod is old enough, it might work.  Newer iPods are unsupported, since Apple decided to keep them private.

You should be able to get it to work as it syncs.  IF the iPod is compatible.  Otherwise, check the Third Party board here for other solutions.

with Wav, itunes and ipod/iphone wont read the metadata (tags) stored, but will play the files though. AIFF and ALAC are the only lossless files that itunes can read it's metadata.
