Looking for an Ethernet DAC
« on: December 03, 2011, 08:58:40 pm »

All I want for Xmas is a Ethernet DAC.  Not a DLNA device, a real Ethernet DAC. One that shows up to the O/S as a sound device just like USB DAC's do.

Will we ever see one?

I doubt it.  What's the market for it over a DLNA or DLNA like device?

Yes, but have you ever tried to sync multiple DLNA renderers?  It sounds like someone playing around with echo for their first time.

DLNA is a nice common infrastructure media sharing protocol but it falls far short in terms of multi-zone use.

A true Ethernet DAC should have more predictable timing and paired with a higher quality DAC then the average DLNA renderer it would be a nice little audio compenent.  NetSteams SpeakerLinX Ethernet DAC's have been around for some time but it appears that you have to pair them up with thier MediaLinX A to D hub.  I just want to point and MC zone to an IP address and let 'er play.
