Theater View Question: Video right click menue size
« on: January 15, 2012, 12:00:04 pm »

A search gave no results so I have to ask:
Scenario: Theater view (.64) on a 40" Flat controlled with a wireless kb/touchpad combo

If I right-click in a playing video to pick another language/subtitles the menue is standard view style which is way too small to read from a 3m distance.
Is there a way to make it "Theater view style"? Larger fonts etc?
Couldn't find anything in Theater View options, any help is appreciated

Try Tools > Options > Theatre View > Appearance

and change the size percentage to see if that helps.. I think the default is 75%
Not sure what the maximum % is, everything looks huge at 200%

I would like that also (I am going to by new glasses at Wednesday anyway :) )... Easiest way would may be changing the font size (but not too big!) permanently, or letting users change it. Ofcourse the right click menu must be scaled to keep it readable, so is it skin-based or JRiver-core based function? (sorry being n00b...). If it is core based, it would be easier (right?) than changing every skin...

(trying to use brian0001 suggestion first thought...)

I would rather use the OSD. Try the arrows to control it. It should work for tasks such as changing the subtitles.

The change of appearance from 100% to 200% effects all of Theater view except the right click menue, unfortunatly.
New glasses won't help unless we talk about binoculars.
Have to check OSD but to be honest: switching the menue to a visible size automatically if Theater View is used is the better way.
After all it's expected and intuitiv.

Changing things with a mouse in display screen via Theater View is less intuitive in my opinion. Most people would have a remote for such things. Theater View is not great to navigate with a mouse the last time I checked.

There are pros and cons using either a kb/touchpad combo or a IR remote, but a debate would be off topic.
For some reasons I can't use a IR remote but I can navigate Theater View with the aphabet/arrow/space/backspace keys of the kb perfectly fine.
(Well, except for the search). The mouse function is only nessesary for the right click menue which fails because you can't read it.
Besides, it's fairly intuitiv if you remember right click in a playing video is used exactly the same way in standard view.

At the very least my thoughts will crash MC on a regular basis  :-\
Voice control like Siri may work some day perhaps. But then there are regional dialects  ;D

Perhaps, but there's no need for debate. Both devices work for controlling Theatre View, including the OSD, which includes subtitle selections. Not everything on the context menu is available in the OSD. If something essential has been omitted, it should be added to the OSD. What's missing is method for using the OSD with a mouse. Then mouse-only users would be able to use the controls designed for the 10' display, rather than expecting elements of the desktop UI to be functional.
