Media Center 17 - Missing Feature
« on: January 15, 2012, 02:34:02 pm »

I just upgraded from MC 16 to MC 17 build 64 and I can't find a feature which I used in MC 16.
In MC 16 I could choose a different audio device for audio and video. This was really usefull, sending audio to my DAC via SPDIF and using HDMI with a different sound card for video. It seems that this feature got lost or I just can't find it anymore.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Norbert

It got 'lost'  :(

I've stuck with MC16 for video because of this, waiting and hoping it may reappear.  ::)

I think the intention is that you setup diferent zones. And there you choice what devices to use. Maybe a Movie Zone and a Audio Zone.

You can use zones to use different sound setups for audio and video.

It is still there, it just is accessed differently.

Change Options -> Video -> General Video Settings -> Video Mode to Advanced -> Custom.
Then click the newly appeared Custom video mode settings button.

In the dialog that appears, change the Start With setting to either ROST or ROHQ, depending on what your machine can handle.
Under the lower Apply the following rules section, click the Add button.
Change the Type of your newly added rule to Audio Renderer, and then under the Filter drop-down box, you pick which audio device you'd like to use.

Even better?  You can add a condition to this rule, so that it only applies if you play certain types of video (containing a certain codec, or by container file type), if you want.

These settings are also "per zone".  So you could even have two zones, one with complex routing, and one using MC's normal audio path, and then quickly switch between these "sets of settings".

Thanks Guys - this is awesome!!!

Using the method described above I can use ASIO to bit-perfect stream music in stereo, but route 5.1 though the soundcard for movies automatically.

Fantastic, MC never ceases to amaze me.

Once again thanks guys
