System Volume control not working (with RME BabyFace)
« on: January 30, 2012, 08:29:26 am »

I just purchase the babyface from rme,  I've selected to send the audio output of jriver to babyface (channels 1&2). I am told by RME that the windows volume can control these outputs.

I tried using asio, directSound, wasapi, ect , but I can not control the volume via the Windows volume contol. (this is a big problem for me as I can't use my keyboard volume keys/ remote) I know RME has there own drivers, might my problem be that I can't select RME's driver ?

-Ps the volume control method in JRiver is set to system..
- any other baby face owners out there??

Try "Internal" for volume.

I have it on internal for now,, but now I am unable to use my wireless keyboard type of remote to control volume. (It's a dedicated HTPC setup)

I just realized my issue isn't JRiver related :P     I simply need the volume of Babyface (analog 1+2 out) to be controlled with windows volume.  (or just the keyboard keys)

I am told by RME that "Windows volume controls the volume if these outputs are used in the application which is sending audio"
and "ASIO will not work"....   "you have to use the correct output devices in JRiver. WDM (or whatever they call it) and then Loudspeaker"

How can I add my RME driver to the list??

You will get the best quality using the native ASIO driver and JRiver's "internal" volume setting.

There are lots of ways to remotely control the volume in Media Center.  The volume buttons on a keyboard, or MCE remote for example.  If this is your main problem, you might start a thread about that.

I thought I did start a thread about my volume control problem. :)  Sorry if this the wrong place..  I believe the RME Babyface won't let me control the volume via my keyboard, because I'm not using the RME driver. Is there a way I can Use the RME driver??

(PS: If an admistrator would like to move the thead, pls do, thnks)

Like Matt mentioned, you need to use the internal volume control in JRiver. The Windows master volume control is bypassed with most pro audio devices which is why you need to use internal volume control. To switch to internal volume go to Player > Volume or click the speaker icon next to the volume slider. You should have the driver's volume control all the way up.

Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I think there are two issues:
1) Getting volume working: as mojave and others stated, switch to Internal volume in Media Center and you're all set
2) Controlling Media Center's volume with your keyboard or remote

#1 is solved, I think.  For #2, we need more details if you're still having problems.

Thanks.
