Weird wired network problem due to NOD32
« on: February 09, 2012, 04:03:37 am »

Hi Jim,
I'm posting to report a weird problem due NOD32... fixed by removing NOD32.
Background...
Setup:
MacMini 2011 with Windows 7 (Bootcamp) 64 bit Pro.
Wyred4 Sound DAC2 (into Cyrus amplification and AudioVector S3 Signatures. Lovely!)
FLAC files stored on Synology DS710+ NAS (RAID1) with latest firmware.

J River MC 17 (Help info pasted below) latest version.
NOD32 Antivirus.
NO other additional programs installed.
Note: Music folder on NAS is set as a mapped network drive which was then added to the J River MC library.

Prior to moving house last week.... MacMini was connected wirelessly via Netgear router to NAS and files played flawlessly....
Moved house and moved to (custom!) wired ethernet connection.
Now: Macmini => Belkin Gigabit (unmanaged) switch => NAS.

Within around 1 min of playing music, incessant buffering! But... only on the wired connection. Wireless was fine!
I wiped the Windows partition, reinstalled minimal programs.
When no NOD32 antivirus... no buffering problems and playback was instantaneous.
As soon as NOD32 installed... buffering returned.
I have since removed NOD32 and installed Microsoft Security Essentials (excluding the NAS from scanning). No further problems.
I am assuming that NOD32 was trying to scan the "incoming" files - but why only on the wired connection??

Thanks for reporting this.  MSE also has caused problems in the past.
