JRiver Newsletter, February 2012

The Best Audio Player. The Best Video Player. The Most Network Capable Media System.

JRiver Users Speak

JRiver Media Center 17 users know what they like!

"It just proves , I guess that when you apply imagination with equal parts passion, you can do anything. I am now an evangelist for JRiver, I thought I had reached the pinnacle with Foobar 2000. Obviously not. J River moved me into enjoying computer audio, it is an essential component now and for always." -- samtheman57

"Congratulations and thanks for making such a wonderful piece of software! I recently discovered Media Center 17's ability to convert my WMA Lossless rips and FLAC downloads to high quality VBR mp3s for syncing to the memory card on my Android phone. Combining this with high quality aptX streaming to my portable Bluetooth speaker or through a set of high quality ear-buds, I'm FINALLY happy with the sound of mp3s while on the road. Bravo to JRiver!" -- alvester

New Eye Candy

Animated lists (shown above) got a good reaction from everyone:

"Love all of the new changes." -- datdude

"Very nice, I like it a lot - works very well for movies." -- Osho

Almost everyone, that is ....

"All this new fangled stuff will never take off....bring back ASCII art I say." -- Anonymous Australian

New Skins

Several beautiful new skins can be found on our Third Party board.

Resources

Digital media can sometimes be daunting. JRiver is making it easier:

  • We've made a simple outline of where to start with links to other resources. It's called Getting Started.

  • Import can now use the Internet to get information for movies and TV shows you have.

  • Import can also intelligently tag your files from the filenames, using Carnac.

  • At the bottom of the jriver.com home page, you will find all the links you need for any problem you might have. Our wiki is full of helpful information and the JRiver forum is a great place to learn from other users.

Remotes

JRiver offers more ways to control your media remotely. Android, iOS, and more. Here's a wiki article that describes our many Remotes.

Sites We Like

JRiver has added the HDTracks music store to JRiver Media Center in MC 17.0.89. Check under Services in the tree. HDTracks offers very high quality downloads. FLAC, AIFF, WAV, and more.

Another of our favorite sites is Computer Audiophile, where you can learn the fine points about computers and audio.

Enjoy your media, wherever you are.

My email was automatically sent to my Junk email folder by Outlook, FYI.  I assume something about the format or content spooked Microsoft.

It was our first attempt at an html e-mail.  It spooked us.

I am still thinking of upgrading but do not want to screw up the MC16 setting..
that I took so long to perfect... (close... to perfect)

IS there a procedure that I can follow so that I can retain all my settings in MC16..
I have a laptop which is also runniong MC16.. How to upgrade..

Noob question ... thousand apologies...

Just install MC17.  The rest should be automatic.  Theater View settings will be reset so you will need to set it up again if you have customized it.  Everything else should transfer.

If you'e not happy after installing, you can just uninstall MC17 and go on using MC16.

Question about upgrades vs updates: I've purchased MC 17, but i'm curious how long I'm entitled to free updates? Are all ver 17.xxxx free? Is it time based - upgrades/updates for 1 yr?

I'm guessing ver 17.xxx would be upDATES = Free

ver 18.xxx+ would be an upGRADES = Upgrade pricing

Sorry for such a simple question, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

That's correct.

Thanks for the purchase.
