WebGizmo/WebPlay - On iOS device
« on: February 20, 2012, 02:58:12 pm »

I have been following all of the threads regarding this none seem to definitively state what is going on.

I have never been able to get WebPlay to play anything but one song, and sometimes I cant even get that.  This has been the case since I bought the program during MC15.

Now that "WebGizmo for iOS Devices" link is constantly popping up at the top of the Forum threads, I figured I would give it a shot.

I dont think the behavior I am seeing is different from any other iOS users (Glynor), but wondering if we are doing something wrong.  Does a different browser work?  Etc....

Basically, I can play one song, only by selecting it at the track level.  ANY version/level of "Play All" results in a black screen or possibly a Play Symbol with a null set symbol (the circle and line through it).  And nothing ever plays.  If I try it say a dozen times, I will get playback but of course playback stops at the end of the song and the "next" button does nothing.

It is very strange that the behavior is so inconsistent.  Typically things either work or they dont.

Has there been any definitive thoughts on this from the MC Team?  Is WebPlay/WebGizmo simply broken?  Is playing one track at a time the best it gets?

I tried about 6 different iOS browsers from Atomic to Dolphin and found no relief.

What is the official word?

Thanks so much,
-Patrick

PS - oooooh, as long as I have you here, how does WebGizmo/Webplay handle conversion?  Better said, does WebGizmo/Webplay convert audio when streaming off of the LAN?  Just curious if it is sending along full 16/44 FLACs.  It seems to buffer/load very quickly.

If it doesn't convert how are hires files handled, as iOS will only accept 24-48 (i think).

Conversion is broken in the latest build.  Stay tuned.

Thanks Jim!  Stellar support as always.  I have been trumpeting this everywhere people will listen to me.

Does your response account for both my main message and my postscript?

Is it the conversion that is causing the "one track only" issue?  Is it also hampering any kind of "Play All" setting?

That asked, if working correctly, what does J River convert FLACs to when serving to WebGizmo off network?

Cheers!

I'm not sure.  Let's see what happens when conversion is fixed.

FLAC should get converted to MP3.  But you can control that in the MC Media Network settings on the server side.
