Views like MusicMatch
« on: March 13, 2012, 06:16:25 pm »

I'm a long time user of MusicMatch, 12 years there abouts.
I still have it working on 2 Windows 7 64 bit computers and an old Windows XP.

If I'm going to go to MC or MJ, I would like to be able to setup Artist/Album and Album views like in MusicMatch. Dropdown style (Very Compact) I don't use Album art in my views. So far I have not been able to achieve this type of view in MC.
I have provided attachments of my view setup for these.

The Track (File) View is fine in MC just like in MM so If you can't remember an exact track name/artist you can quickly scroll through the list to see if anything jogs the memory especially when you have a Ute load of tracks and many hundreds of Vinyl Records still to record to your library.

So hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to achieve these views

Thanks

Welcome, Musicmatch Ute.

Try cycling through views by using ctrl-u, just to see what's there.

But your best bet is probably the tree on the left.  You can probably expand it as you go to see what you want.

Hey, Irover, welcome to the board.

I can't reproduce exactly what you want, but what about a simplified panes view? Not quite as compact as your example, but same concept. Click on a artist, it shows the albums on the right and tracks underneath. You can click on an individual album to only display those tracks.

Second view shows only individual albums

Thanks had something close but have refine it from your view files

Yeah not quite as compact

With my artist/ablum view when I click on the artist I would just like to see the albums first then click on the album to select song to play/view the songs on the album

Takes up how much hardware space otherwise

thanks again

If you like the collapsed album setup you can use stacks
right click on one of the headers and select stack icon                      (the new column will show up to the left of the column you right clicked)
select all of the files in an album and then right click>stacks>stack     (this will collapse them to a single line, then you can click the stack icon to expand them and click any icon to collapse them)

Stacks are generally used for hiding a lower quality version if you have multiple qualities that are kept to sync to a handheld or for streaming to a remote location but they work for this also.

While I was in the process of editing my above post I got distracted and you replied so I figured I better add this to an new reply.
I failed to mention there is one drawback when doing this the search function will not find any file that is not visible/collapsed.

Irover--

If you're looking to collapse views into Album (Music) or Series (TV) or (etc), I'm with you there.  But as regards the Natural Progression, I moved from MM to MC about 6 years ago, and MC seemed lightyears ahead of MM back then.  Now?  Dude, investigate!!

Something like this?

If so, create an expression column in a panes view, such as:

   [Artist]\[Album]\[Name]&datatype=[list]

You can customize the View Details to make the panes be Dropdown style.
