Cover Art changing in the background
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:23:57 pm »

MC keeps changing my Cover Art although there already is coverart with the correct
filename in the cover art folder.

I have no idea why this happens but I want it to stop.
Can you you give me a hint which settings I have to switch on/off?

At a closer look MC seems to prefer changing (Multiple Artists) covers.

Not sure if it would help, but something you can try.

OPTIONS/FILE LOCATIONS/COVER ART/AUDIO MODE (In the same folder as the file as folder.jpg)

I'm just moved over from MCE and set mine up like that because that's the way they did it and I'm used to it. Haven't had any "musical cover" issues ... so far, so maybe that does make a difference.

There's also an option to store the cover in the music file also, but not sure which formats that works with.

Also clueless as to which copy of a cover image takes precedence if all three options are enabled. I found the option I listed earlier after ripping maybe 20 CDs and since then, I do get the "folder.jpg" in the album directory for anything I add. Then again, the old ones are working fine. I do plan to "fix" the covers on the older rips ... as in make them like the new ones.

One thing that might be nice is to add folder location prompts to the installation wizard. I've been more or less stumbling over features when I get bored and start poking about the program.

Thanks for your answer.
Actually I'm fine with a dedicated Cover Art folder.

But I have e.g. 1080*1080 coverart that gets overwritten by a 200*200 image
and sometimes it even is a wrong image.

I have "Auto Import" enabled with features: get cover art, build thumbnails

This is fine if I import something new when there is no cover art in my folder yet.

But does this also cause MC to overwrite already existing cover art?
If e.g. I tag a file (from within MC) which changes the file on the disk (store tag in file)
so that MC detects that the file has changed?

MC will definitely not do that.  But some versions of WMP and Windows Home Server will.  Try a Google search for more information.

As Jim said, this is usually caused by Microsoft programs or the operating system -- Windows Media Player, Windows Explorer, Windows Home Server, etc. See my recent reply here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=67606.msg478906#msg478906

Hmm,

my files are all FLAC which MS doesn't care about and I don't ever touch WMP.

What is strange to me is that the coverart that is changed can be found at JRiver YADB
if I select the tracks and do "image/Get from Internet"

E.g. I have an album and its 1080 coverart: (Multiple Artists) - Where Blues Meets Rock VIII

If I check the coverart in YADB I see a cover for a different record:  Where Blues Meets Rock V

And that was excactly the coverart that appeared on my disk.

Maybe there is some side-effect causing this in MC, can you say for sure this doesn't happen?

MC doesn't resize an existing linked cover art file. However in certain circumstances, when MC (for some reason) has not already created a link to the existing image file it is possible that MC downloads a cover art file from the online database and stores it using the naming convention that is set in the options. This will overwrite an existing image if the filenames and location match. I'd say that most cover art images in the online database are bigger than 200x200, but it is possible that some users have uploaded these stamp sized images and they get downloaded when no better and more popular versions exist.

Regarding the difference between "Where Blues Meets Rock VIII" and "Where Blues Meets Rock V", some user may have uploaded the wrong image.

Yes, but how does it appear on my disk?
I didn't download it, I already had a better one.
It's strange that some Microsoft software should download exactly this cover and change it on my disk.

It's ok for now, i will try to monitor this.
It's too hard for me to discuss in english since I obviously cannot express myself enough.
