This is my first post. Please direct me to the correct section if this is not the correct one.

I have the following configuration.

HP laptop
WIN 7 64bit
MC17
WASAPI exclusive
M2TECH HiFace EVO connected to USB port

I point MC17 to my itunes files directory tree and the AAC m4p 128K files do not play through the HiFace EVO. They play through the PC's internal speakers. All other itunes based, FLAC etc play through the HiFace EVO.

MC must use the installed QuickTime player engine to play DRM protected Apple AAC files. QT plays always directly through the default Windows Audio Device and thus in this case the audio device settings inside MC are ineffective. I guess you would need to set the M2TECH device to be the default Windows audio device.

Welcome to the forum.  Apple's protected format can be played in MC by using the Quicktime engine.  So see if you can find out whether QT will play to the HiFace device.

The format uses "Fairplay" protection.  More here:

Hi All,

 I am unable to play AAC protected files through my HiFace EVO using MC17. They play through my PC's speakers.

Configuration:

M2Tech HiFace EVO connected to a USB port

I point MC17 to the itunes directory tree and the Apple AAC protected m4p files play through the laptop speakers. All other file types (FLAC, m4a, WAV etc) play through the HiFace EVO.

Is this a MC17 setting or an issue with the HiFace EVO driver? Has anyone seen this issue before and now how to fix it?

Thanks for the pointers. Changing the default device allowed the the AAC files to play; which was the first phase. Now to convert them to a non-protected type. I paid my $ they should be mine to do with as I please. APPLE, DO YOU HEAR ME!? YOU !@#$%^&

Apple offers an upgrade path from protected 128 kbps iTunes AAC files to unprotected 256 kbps iTunes AAC files, but it isn't free: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1711

Some dubious programs offer an option to convert protected files, but to be able to do that these programs must decode the lossy source file, grab the decoded audio output, and re-encode it back to a lossy format. The resulting audio quality can be worse than before.

iTunes allows you to burn them to CD. So, you could burn them to CD and re-import them? You'll lose the metadata maybe.
