I know that this was posted before but would like to know if there is any plan to allow a custom location for JRsidecar files (and associated graphics) or some way to have these files automatically hidden so that i do not have to see them when I navigate directories via my computer.

My preferred method would is that the files could be hidden and there could be a "clean up" option to delete files that are no longer associated with the media (e.g., if a media file is renamed, I would assume that a new sidecar files would be created and the old one would become an orphan and if a file is deleted they would also become orphans; these files could be cleaned up either by manually clicking on "clean up" or at predfined intervals - daily , weekly).

These files are an issue for me and extremely annoying.  I do not believe that adding this feature would be complex and would definitely (in my humble opinion) add to the feature set of an already amazing pgm.

I believe it was suggested there could be an option to hide these files. It seems to me they are deleted when the associated media file is. Can you be more specific about situations where they are not?

I often work with files via windows explorer and as such these files are an annoyance for me.  that is why I am suggesting a method that would allow navigation of files via windows explorere (or any file manager) and not have to see all these "other" files.

I think the ship has sailed on that one. I don't know, but there might be hope for an option to hide them.

Even when Explorer includes one-click filtering by file type?

Sorry, I just can't fathom how files stored in the most sensible location in a file system can be an annoyance. If I want to see or do something with a sidecar file, it would be an extreme annoyance to have to look for it elsewhere. And if I don't want to see them, I can hide them. Granted, this is somewhat easier—if not automatic—when using a real file manager (e.g., Directory Opus). But it doesn't seem right to ask JRiver to make changes to compensate for deficiencies in Windows Explorer.

I fully support an option to hide them. I NEVER want to see this when navigating in Explorer. Neither will most other people who are not MC exclusive with their browsing. They are just for MC internal use, and it should work perfectly well even if they are hidden. This annoys many new and old MC users, and it should be just as easy as adding a hide attribute to the creation of the file.

Having the ability to move this files and art files to other directories would be the best, but I do not think i have the power to persuade JRiver about this at this point

It might help if you had a sound and rationale argument. It seems clear there isn't one for saving the files in a different location. The idea of saving sidecar files directly associated with media files in a different location is absurd. Hiding them would be easy to do and relatively harmless, but I can understand a reluctance to accommodate such a request. The file system is largely the domain of the operating system, and an application hiding data files seems to crossing the line into territory which is none of it's business or concern. Those who don't want to see such files in a file manager should use a file manager that allows them to hide them. Or run a scheduled script that hides all such newly created files. In other words, if you want to hide them, hide them. Stop pretending MC is putting them in the 'wrong' location and should hide them for you.

You're not helping your argument by saying things like "they are just for MC internal use" or they're "system files." What, exactly, do you mean? They're meta data files, not system files. But that's splitting hairs too. What file is not for the internal use of some program? Isn't the media file for internal use of some program as well? Surely there's nothing you can do with a media file but play in a player or view it in a viewer. Except see it's name in a list of files at a particular location in the file system. Interesting—that's not unlike those sidecar files. But you want to hide them? It makes no sense.
