Can only connect from localhost... what am I doing wrong?
« on: May 01, 2012, 02:48:02 pm »

I've enabled Media Network on MC17 under Win 7 64 bit. Wi-Fi connection. Network location type is set to Home. My laptop is discoverable on the network.

I opened the port on my software firewall.

I opened the same port on the FiOS router (though I don't think I need to do this just to use it via LAN).

For some reason, if I try to connect to the IP address of my machine, say 192.168.1.10:52199, I get nothing.

I've disabled my software firewall completely (Kaspersky Pure) and still not had any luck.

I also did something crazy and turned the security functions of the router "off" completely as well. Still can't connect.

I've tried from another laptop and I've tried from a Kindle Fire. Neither will connect to MC17.

I'm just trying to use the connection as a remote, since I often fire up my music from my main PC and then work about 10 feet from the laptop. Guess I'm just being lazy.

Any recommendations?

I've also tried configuring a different port completely and that doesn't work either.

Here's a topic on our wiki:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Network_Access

It looks like a firewall is still blocking.  Sometimes programs that have been disabled are still active.

Make sure you are using that port in MC's settings.

I've read through that link and nothing seems to apply in this situation.

I've verified Kaspersky Pure is completely disabled. I've verified that the Windows Firewall is still OFF (disabled because I have Kaspersky).

I'm not sure what else to look into. Any ideas?

That all points towards a firewall somewhere, but where?

Let me check to make sure I still have the license key and I'll try that next.

If you can't find your licence try the Magic Jelly Bean
