Ripping Multiple CDs - is it limited to 2 processes?
« on: May 03, 2012, 06:18:23 pm »

I have a bunch of CDs (hundreds) to rip. I have an array of 8 readers on a 3930K system.
I set expert options to rip:8 Yet, Max encode and max concurrent processes can not be changed from 4 and 2 respectively.
When I rip to flac I can only rip 2 disks at a time.
Is this a limit?
Is there a fix?

There shouldn't be a limit.  What is the complete version number of MC?

Try ripping to WAV, just to test.

It will only rip 2 concurrent discs to wav format.

I updated MC 17. to .147. Now all of the expert process control options are grayed out and max combined process is set to 1.

Try unchecking "Encode concurrently with ripping" to see if the options aren't grayed out anymore.

This shouldn't be limited.  I can rip 3 CD's at once on my system.  Just leave "Encode concurrently" checked and "max rip processes" should be set to match the number of CD drives you have on your system.

I toggled "Encode concurrently" and it allowed my to change the concurrent processes. It still limits "Max encode processes" to 4 and max  combined to 8 after turning encode concurrently back on.

Really need one of these.  http://www.getdigitaldata.com/ProductNimbie.aspx  I ripped around 1500 CD's in about 10 days.  Just one drive and to WAV.   (Has other formats.)  Just load it up and keep it filled.  Worked great!  Wav is great for DTS, but you need this software to rename the extension back to DTS.  http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php

"Max encode processes" and "Max combined processes" are greyed out when "Encode concurrently..." is checked because they are not applicable to a concurrent rip/encode setup.

I can rip about 100 CDs / hour with all 8 drives while checking the tags.
