Android Tablet not connecting to MC 17
« on: June 01, 2012, 12:25:17 am »

I have MC 17 installed and working fine. I installed Gizmo and got the access key.
I completed Installing Gizmo steps 1-5.
I entered the access key into the tablet Gizmo application and it does not connect.
I can run Gizmo on the music server, but cannot connect with the tablet.
The music server has a separate wireless network that is not connected to the internet.
I have a wireless connection to the internet through a different network that I normally do not enable.
When I connect the tablet to the music server wireless network, the access key step tries but times out asking if the network connection is working.
Other aps see the network and correct IP addresses.
I would like to get this working if someone has an idea of what is wrong.

My Android device is  a Samsung GT-P1010 running firmware 2.2.1

Have you setup port forwarding on your router and made the appropriate setting in any firewall you are running.

Port forwarding is on and the Firewall is disabled.

I think had the same problem.
I had to connect the first time the router ( from my music server network) directly to the internet

The network accessing the internet uses a Netgear WNDR3300.
The Music server is using a Netgear WNR834B V2

Just so we are on the same page is this what you have done on the WNR834B
Port Forwarding / Port Triggering
clicked the radio button for Port Forwarding
add custom service
entered service name
service type TCP
starting port 52199
ending port  52199
entered the server IP address

Thank you for helping. I did confirm all of the above.
I did not have the starting and ending port number entered, but it made no difference after entering.
The Samsung tablet running Gizmo attempts to connect to IP address 192.168.1.10
I am using 192.168.1.254 for the music server wireless router and 192.168.1.3 for the music server network storage.

What happens when you test the connection from within options-->media network-->access key.
If the IP Gizmo is attempting to connect to matches the IP that MC is on and you are on connected to the 192.168.1.254 router's wifi then it should work.
Did you try restarting the router.
How do you have you routers configured?
example: (I have 2 routers)
DSL Router (192.168.1.254) which is connected to Router 2 (192.168.10.1)
DSL Router is setup as an access point and Router 2 is configured as a DMZ device

I have restarted the router and explained the configuration of the routers in the first posting. The two routers are not connected. I can put a wireless dongle in the music server to access the internet when needed. I normally do not use this connection but keep the music server on its own network. I can operate Gizmo from the music server system. I just can't get my tablet to connect to the music server system to allow me to remotely control the selection of music. I am sure this software works as others are able to use it. There must be something wrong with my configuration. I just don't have time to continue to play with this as I have other work I must complete. I will try to figure it out sometime in the future, but for now will enjoy the system without remote access. Thanks for trying to help.

I finally got some time to work on this issue again and yes, once the router was connected to the internet, it worked. I then moved all the equipment back to my music listening room and tried it again. Apparently to use this program, one must have the music server router connected to the internet so it can look up the key each time the program is used. If this is correct, then I can't use Gizmo. Am I missing a setting that allows this program to work without having to check the key on the internet each time it is used?

There isn't any special requirement about where your router is.  But the path from Gizmo on the Android to the server at JRiver must be open.

The topic called "Network Access" on our wiki might help.

If Gizmo can't access the Internet, it will use the last IP address that worked.

Understood. Thanks for the reply. Please let me know if this design feature is ever changed so it works with a stand alone network without internet connection.

I actually prefer WebGizmo over Gizmo as it can be setup with more features with a bit of html editing.
Have you tried it, you will never need internet access for it.

Thank you. That is certainly an easy to use approach and it works well.
