MC 17 Falling Over On Library Import
« on: June 17, 2012, 08:04:03 pm »

New user/install of current live MC17 on 30 day trial.  Love the s/w, but my system appears to fail when importing library

Configured for background import, no art work, 2 specific directories containing my files, one a local drive, another a usb drive

Overall Library import of circa 60,000 m4a, FLAC, mp3 fails - run time error C++ library and/or runs out of memory.  Does this on local only drive install as well as usb drive.

Upon restart appears to add duplicates

H/w is Acer R3610 dual atom 4 Gb 500Gb with a 1.5 USB attached hard drive from Seagate (non powered)

Left the app minimised during import.

Any support help/advise to make the system/ s/w import completely fit for purpose would be appreciated.  (Previous posts appear to infer only a work around not a fix (import less files in tranches).

Sorry you're having trouble.

Make sure your virus checker isn't getting in the way.

Try importing only FLAC or only MP3.

Thanks for the prompt response.

I left windows MSE running.

I uploaded 1,000 FLAC from local drive - no issues
I then uploaded 3,000 MP3 from local and USB - no issues
I then uploaded 16,000 alac from local - no issues
Finally I uploaded 50,000k alac from USB - fell over once (they are all in itunes organised folder per artist so did not tranche them) - error was windows has detected MC17 not responding.  memory looked ok - I have 4 gb plus 4gb full time swap file btw.  Firmware on drives is up to date.

I used Glary utility to count number of files per type and it looks like no duplicates so happy with results, but obviously some problem here if the app cannot deal with putting 50k files into its library file?

Also, about 50 files were put in bad database - they had blank bit/Hz fields and I will repair manually so don't believe its corrupt files.

I guess my question is is it reasonable for me to expect the product to successfully process 50k files into its library on a system with the computer resource I have?

50,000 files isn't the problem.  MC will handle 500,000 or more.  It looks like the problem is ALAC or the USB drive or the antivirus.

Get the latest build of MC from the top of this board before you try.  It's 17.0.173.

Try moving some ALAC files to the local drive and importing them.

Test without MSE.

What is the source of the ALAC files?  iTunes ripping?

Itunes is ALAC source

I used the latest build.

I imported 16k alac on the local drive ok - see my post

I imported mp3 and flac from usb drive ok (circa 200 and 300)

MSE makes no difference

It seems to fail at anywhere after doing 20k or 30 k of alacs i.e. not at a specific alac

I wondered if it was computer resource related as I only have an atom cpu buts its the dual core

Please report the version you're using.  There are at least two that are available.

If it imported 16,000 from the local drive, but it fails with the USB drive, there may be a problem with the USB drive.

It isn't the sheer number of files.
