cover art is not shown from my ape files
« on: June 19, 2012, 03:04:43 pm »

I use mp3tag to add cover art picture to my ape files. I can play the ape by foobar2000, album art can be shown in foobar2000.

when I use MC to play this ape file, can not show cover art in MC,

In the mean time, MC can show cover art from my flac file.

Is there some settings / config I should do to show my embedded cover art in my ape files?

thanks.

Are the covers stored as files or in the audio track?  If as files, what is the name?

Pictures are stored in the ape file. They are all embedded.

What version of MC17 are you using?  Did you try the latest from the top of this board?  It's 17.0.173.

I just tested embedding covert art to an APE file with Mp3tag. MC displayed it fine. In addition to jpg I tested also png, because I didn't know if MC supports the png format. Also png displayed correctly.

klavier,

If you can reproduce the problem with a recent MC build (install the latest as Jim instructed) I would like to see a sample file. I attached a very small APE file (in a zip package). Could you please download it, unzip, add cover art, upload it somewhere, and post a link? (Assuming you can reproduce the problem with the sample file.)

I post the file with cover art which I made myself with mp3tag tool. Can you help check this file? I can play it by foobar2000 and cover art is shown on foobar.

However, this cover art can not be shown on MC v17

I just came back from a vacation. Sorry for the late reply.

The cover art image is not showing up because your file has APE tags and ID3v1 tags. It is recommended to use only APE tags with APE files. MC supports APE files that are tagged with the ID3v1 tags, but the possibly existing APE tags are not read at all if the file has ID3v1 tags. The old and very limited ID3v1 tag format does not support cover art.

You can fix the problem with Mp3tag. Set it to write only APE tags and cut and paste the tags with it.
See the attached screenshots.

but the possibly existing APE tags are not read at all if the file has ID3v1 tags.

This is exactly right.

The reference APE tagging code (which I wrote, and Media Center uses) loads an ID3v1.1 tag first.  If that's found, it does not load an APE tag.

Support for ID3v1.1 tags in the APE code is only a legacy thing for when APE tags didn't exist 10+ years ago.

Now you should only use APE tags with your APE files.

And I would recommend using JRiver to do your APE tagging.
