move all files to different drive, keep folder structure?
« on: August 12, 2012, 09:26:46 am »

I have a fairly extensive folder structure for my music library files, and I want to move the whole works to a different internal hard drive.  How can I do that without losing either the folder structure or the playlists, and without doing it folder by folder?

There is a wiki article called "Moving Files" that might help.

Do it inside MC if you can.  Use the Library Tool called "Move, copy, rename".

Select the files you want to move, right click and select Rename, Move, & Copy Files.

In the new window
select Rename (moves files if directory changes) from the drop down at the top
uncheck Directories
uncheck Filename
check Find & Replace
find: D:\
replace: E:\
(Enter your correct drive letters)

Will this also move any Cover Art files?  It depends how Mike has cover art handled.  Are they folder.jpg in the same folder as the album?  If so, I don't think they get moved.  If they in the in the file tags it will be OK.  If they in the Cover Art folder it should be OK.

Nick.

JRiver moves the files you have selected.
If the scope of the view is Audio, only audio files can be selected and moved, no cover art.
If one would change the scope to Audio/Images you can select both the audio and the pics

NickF is correct if you are using folder.jpg it will not move with the audio files.

The work around is to import all of your folder.jpg files and then create a view with both audio and image files so you can select the folder.jpg files too.

Sorry I failed to mention it before, didn't think about it because I use Specified folder for audio and along side file as [name].jpg for Movies
