Album View: Version 0.2.3b is now available
« on: April 26, 2002, 07:41:06 am »

Here you go people:
http://www.jda-ltd.com/freeware/mjav.exe

And here's the changelog:

Fixed issue where track view grid was always expanded
Fixed issue where album view/tracks grid was totally disabled in sync mode ... can now scroll to see all tracks
Reports grid now empties itself on a rescan
Fixed issue where another object reference was stopping MJ from exiting
Switched to new MJ icons where applicable
Speeded up scanning of MJ database ... removed runtime debugging and added option to disable progress bar
Changing grouping on grids now collapses all entries
Added ability to exclude tracks by type and if the album title is missing
Track view grid now preserves sorting columns/groups over a rescan
Added incomplete album report
Added ability to save reports and the track view data
Added timings only tracing
Added flag to indicate if all album images have been cached ... stops overview pages being reloaded

This version should keep you going until I get internal images sorted.

Let me know what you think and if you see a speed improvement.
To get the best out of it switch off "Show progress during a scan" and "prefetch all on database scan".

Where does Album View expect to find cover art images by default? I use:

d:\mp3s\Artist - Album\Artist - Album.jpg

and I don't bother associating all 10,000  tracks; I just use a Trackinfo vis that displays the right image.

Currently it gets the image filenames from MJ ... although external checking is going in soon.

Ah, that explains it. I just bypass MJ as I do not want to have to do the association. It would be great if MJ could just have some sort of default system/directory/whatever to associate images with tracks/albums. BTW your plugin shows a lot of promise! I'll keep trying it.

Can you post a couple of real life examples so I can get an idea of how to make a generic solution for people.

I'm hoping I should have something usable tomorrow.

Rhino,

That Unassigned filter is working well.

I know that you atrated with the idea in mind to show a cover for each track....each MP3....( and you are working on doing it by album instead of track/ artist Next Page )

Thing is...each thumbnail shows the name of the album....not the track name.....so I have a bunch of album covers that are the same  AND show the same thing in the text below it.

Did I do something wrong here....cause this does not seem to make sense....how am I supposed to differentiate between one album cover and another if the image and text are equal.

Re: image file location:

Oops - I think I just posted a related request under 'Cover Art Organisation'. We definitely need a way to decide where we store our image files - either through the plugin or MJ itself.

This plugin is really good work and far beyond my ability - thank you RhinoBanga.

Mike, I'll sit down and think about your problem after I get internal images sorted ... but off the top of my head would custom captions solve your problem in the short term, e.g:

$album$ - $type$ ($bitrate$)    or
$trackname$ ($bitrate$)

Bearing in mind that AV currently only uses the first track of an "album" for the thumbnail image?

Rhino,

Something Funky is going on......In regards to my previous post.....I just saw that there are some ALBUMS that are shown (cover art) for each track in the album......HOWEVER there are other albums that only show the album cover once !

lee269/MWGilbert,

Off the top of my head I am going to implement a facility where you can tell AV the directories to scan using a predefined naming convention, e.g.:

Directory=c:©over art
Convention=$artist$ - $album$.jpg

Directory=d:\$artist
Convention=$album$.jpg

And totally bypass MJ.

Does that sound ok?

Rhino,

I think I found out what was going on.

Everything seems to work fine when the MP3 is named  ARTIST-TITLE-ALBUM

However when the Track is named  ARTIST-ALBUM-TITLE the cover art is placed on the overview once for EVERY song.

I have no idea if this makes any sense....but I will try to rename all my files with MJ to fit what seems to work.

I see you got it figured just as I posted!

I'd still be interested in your .jmd files so I can think about the overall problem ... but don't worry about it if you don't want to send them.

Yes, that would do it - Ill test it out also.

Another point (sorry if this is not original, because AV is new to me) - Album Details view shows me neatly which files have no image, but itd be more useful if I could right click on an album in the tree view and choose properties in order to get art and fill in the blanks. Curently I have to remember which albums have no images in MJs media view, AFAIK.

Where do I store my album images...?

I store these as cover.jpg in the source directories.
I keep all my albums in separate directories!

Is there not a limit on the number of files you can store in a single directory?

yes, like 512 on the root and about 14,000|PLS| in sub folders

but thats with fat32, if you use windows NT format, there is no limit (not that i know of)

On albums with multiple artists, the cover shows up multiple times.  Is there a way to limit this so the cover only shows up once per album?

There will be an "album only" mode in the next release.

Is there any way to alter what respective text is displayed in the 'Entire Collection' bit? I'd like to view artist name/album..

LOL ... are you a mind reader Dave?

I have literally just finished implementing custom thumbnail captions so you can specify something like:

!album!(!bitrate! kbps - !type!)

Awesome! Great plug-in...was previously creating html pages that did a similar thing but which took a LONG time to create and I could never be bothered to update them.
