I have many, many AVI files on my computer. Here's the problem.
So, I get all my files into JRiver, which is boss because JRiver is where I like my media to be.
Problem:
I go to play a few files, they work like a charm. I go to play a few more files, and they don't work at all. As in, JRiver opens the file, black screen in full screen view, tumbleweeds because nothing is happening.
:( <-- Now this face is me.
I pop open the file in VLC player - works like a charm, no problems what so ever.

What do I do to get these sweet, sweet files playing in JRiver?

Thank you for your time.

Are you using the latest build of MC17?  It's 17.0.186.

Why yes, yes I am. And aside from this one problem, let me tell you - it is delicious.

So, what do I do?

Shocking Edit/Update:
Actually, it turns out that it's not just the avi's now. I went to go play some episodes of Bleach (MKV, if it's relevant) and they were all "Nah, not gonna play now, thanks." And then I went back to the earlier stuff, you know, the stuff I already watched. Now that stuff's not playing either.

That sounds like this problem:

Caused by Synology server firmware problem.

I do not know what Synology is. Is that a physical drive type / hardware, or a software suite, or?

I thought it might be related to the file name type, but it doesn't seem to be.

I am without the NAS drive, as you call it. The NAS drive is somewhere, but here it is not.

The problem I still have, the solution I will seek!

I have been unable to find a solution.

If you can help me, if you think you realize the problem, if you need more information, please let me know.
