Windows 8 + MC 17 + Galaxy Nexus = No Love
« on: October 02, 2012, 08:27:01 pm »

J River just says working when querying the phone for existing tracks.  I can browse the phone just fine via windows explorer.

Not sure if it isn't quite sure where to look for the music and is searching the whole internal storage.

This is where my music is on the phone:

Computer\Galaxy Nexus\Internal storage\Music

What path should I have in J River?

Are you using Handhelds in the Action Window?

No just clicking on the device under "Drives & Devices".

Try using Handheld Sync in the Action Window.

Try using Handheld Sync in the Action Window.

Once I hit sync, It just hangs at the pop up "Loading Handheld..."

I can see 1-3% CPU activity on J River so it's doing something during this time.

I can confirm the same issues with MC17 & 18 as  Dr Tone and other users have reported on this and other threads as well.

As it stands, Syncing via MTP on Android 4.x is problematic, to say the least.

*MC Takes forever to "load" the contents of an android device using android 4x and MTP mode. It can take up to 10minutes to actually load my SGSIII with a class 10 sd card.

*Syncing throws up errors while uploading, making the MTP application on the phones get stuck

*MC Will ignore any files currently present on the device and will try to sync everything back again. Tested with both mp3 re-encoding and external encoder (neroaac)

There are other posts in this board with this kind of issue and i think it's now a good opportunity for this matter to get some more attention, so you guys be able to fully resolve it.

Other Threads with problems syncing over MTP on android Phones:

Samsung Galaxy S3 - Sync issues

Can't sync after ICS update on Droid4

I've waited well over 5 minutes, not sure exactly how long.

I'm on Android 4.1.1 FYI.  This might have been an issue on Windows 7 as well, I just recently quit using SqueezeCommander on the phone to download new music and just happened to have moved to Windows 8 at about the same time.

Not to diminish the problem but since I've set my Android sync up this way I LOVE IT!  No more cable connections.
Requires a cloud storage location at least as big as the media you want to sync (I use Google drive - paying $2 something a month and get 25GB of space - good enough for my wife and I)  I believe this works with Box accounts too which start at 25gb free.  Anyway here is how I set it up:

1) Setup the cloud storage service of your choice on your PC (dropbox, google drive, box etc)
2) Create a local folder in that service that will serve as the local copy of what you want on your phone.
3) manually add a new "Handheld" in MC and point to your newly created folder
4) Setup your handheld to sync what ever media you want via MC
5) Sync your "handheld" (really just a folder on your local HD)
6) Go to the Android Playstore and purchase/Install FolderSync  http://is.gd/Hf6RM4
7) Setup your cloud service in FolderSync
8 ) Create a "Folder Pair" in FolderSync (basically this involves telling which remote location to sync with which folder on your phone/tablet)
9) Create a sync schedule  and away you go. I have mine set to sync every 12 hours and only on WiFi.

I have been doing this now for 6 months on 3 different devices and it works like a charm.  Haven't plugged my Phone or tablet in since and I sync a lot more because it is easier.  All I do is resync via MC and within 12 hours (usually overnight for me) the changes show up on my phone.  (you can also manually trigger a sync in FolderSync)

Thanks for the instructions, wino.  I added a Wiki topic called "Cloud Storage".

Thanks!  This is awesome, I'm not even worried about the issue now.  :)
