Hi, I have been using and enjoying media center since MC16 and have been loving it!
I was currently using MC17 and had purchased an upgrade license.
I was going to stay with MC17 till MC18 was out of beta since MC17 was still working great.

I Received an error message (Something went wrong with playback. Details: failed to connect video renderer to video decoder.)
after searching the forum for this error to no avail i tried installing new codec pack to see if it would fix it.
No luck.
So i Went ahead and upgraded to MC18 hoping it would fix it.
No luck again
So now i am receiving that message any time i try to play video with this player.
Windows media player is giving me errors too.
VLC plays things fine tho.
I really would rather use MC18 as my primary player though.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated .
Thank you.

Welcome.  What are you trying to play?  Did you try setting video to Red October Std?

Maybe you could try these two things and report back:
1) Update your video drivers direct from the driver manufacturer
2) Red October HQ in Options > Video

Thanks.

Thanks for your help sorting this out.
I updated the video driver straight from Intel as requested.

i switched to HQ as requested and got the error (MadVR reports: -getting display mode failed.) after trying to load a bit.
some additional info that might help.
win 7 x64
Intel core i5-2500 cpu at 3.30 ghz 3.30 ghz (sandy bridge)
In a shuttle xpc case
Intel graphics
Thanks for any help you can give.

It sounds like you have good hardware, but it seems like something is going wrong on the video hardware side.

Unfortunately I've never heard this problem before so don't have anything too smart to offer.

Do you have any extra video driver software or video hardware installed that could be causing trouble?

Will any video play?

Does audio play alright?

Anybody else have any ideas?

The fact that vlc plays fine, but WMP doesn't indicates a problem with your directshow. The first thing you should do is get rid of the codec pack you downloaded. And then try Red October again. Also, what is your video refresh rate set to in Windows? Did you make any changes to automatic display settings in options?

OK K-lite codec pack uninstalled and tried red October again. same error.
video refresh rate is 60
Automatic display in options is unchecked.
I don't think i changed anything in there.
video for this is on the cpu, not sure if that matters.
Its a shuttle SH67H3 Barebones with a    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz
Audio plays fine but video errors before i see anything but black screen.
Thank you for trying to sort this out.

Late Edit:
I seem to have found the problem. I went and found an old shuttle video driver for my machine and it worked.
When the Intel video software on my machine offered a new driver I must have upgraded.
Now i know i have to stick with shuttle video drivers only even though  they are Intel ones also.

Thank you Everyone that Helped and even the ones who racked their brains but didn't post.
Hopefully my mix up will help others.
Now i get to try out the MC18!
Thank you all!!

Thanks for posting the update. On the bright side, you got rid of K-Lite. (It shouldn't do any harm, but it's now one less thing that could potentially cause conflict later).
