A quick licensing question?
« on: December 21, 2012, 09:48:36 am »

Hi,

I'm new here and it really seems like a great community.  I have searched the board but can't seem to find the answer to one question and am hoping someone can help.  Please forgive me if this isn't the proper place/section for this topic.  I'm ready to purchase MC18 but what I'm really interested in is the Mac OSX version.  If I buy now, will my Windows MC18 license be transferable to the Mac Version when released, or will the mac version be considered a totally separate product and license?  If it is, is a side-grade offer being considered, or am I better off just waiting for the Mac version to final, and then purchase?  Sorry if this is too forward.

Thanks!

The answers have been a bit vague on this point, but I'd expect the OSX version to be separately licensed.  Perhaps Matt (or Jim) can comment and clear it up with this simple question.

Bear in mind, however, that the early OSX builds (probably for this whole "major version" cycle) will be fairly limited.  I believe they're targeting audio-only at this point (I'm still hoping it can launch other file types in external players, which would make it fine until native video/image support can be added).  But, for the next while... The Windows version will still be much more powerful.

Thanks for the info.  I wasn't aware that it was mostly focused on audio at this point but that does make a lot of sense.  Oh well, time to install bootcamp...   :)

Best,

FYI:  MC works great under Parallels and VMWare Fusion.

The Mac version will be a separate license.

The Mac version will be a separate license.

There you go.  I thought you'd said that in one of the monumental OSX threads, but I looked and I couldn't find it.  I didn't try very hard, though.
