Our very best holiday greetings to you and your family.
We sure have a lot to celebrate. You, the best users in the world, and an ever-improving product have given us one heck of a year and it doesn’t seem to be letting up.
JRiver was recently chosen as a "
Best of 2012" product by HomeTheaterReview.com and we've just learned that JRiver was also chosen "
Writers' Choice Awards for 2012" by Positive Feedback Online. We're extremely grateful for these awards. You can find the complete list of reviews here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Reviews JRiver Media Center 18 is Ready to Go and Better Than EverWe recommend switching to MC18 now. We've done 100 builds of the new version. It's safe to use. Here are the features (so far):
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74442.0Upgrade for $24 (10% Savings)If you'd like to purchase an upgrade, please follow the instructions here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Upgrade_to_MC18ZoneSwitch and LoudnessTwo good examples of new features. Send specific content to a different zone with different settings. Or play your audio at lower volumes with a boost provided by the "Loudness" switch.
MC18 Updates may be freeIf you've already purchased MC18, you can download the latest build of MC18 and install it free of charge. No need to uninstall. Your data is preserved.
The Fastest Player is Now Even FasterAt build 95, we switched to a new Microsoft compiler that gave JRiver Media Center about a 5% increase in speed. This is in addition to the constant improvements made in performance.
MAC OSX Version SoonWe've been working on a Mac version of JRiver Media Center. You can read about the progress here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=75129.0As part of the work, we've built a Mac version of our new HDtracks Downloader. You can download it here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=75151.0Improved Red October VideoThanks in part to the great work of nevcairiel (LAV author) and madshi (madVR author), our video support has continued to improve. MC now supports DVD playback using Red October HQ. For all video formats, JRiver Media Center is the highest quality video player available on a PC, with full subtitle support.
Theater View TVVersion 18 organizes your TV Series by Program, Season, and Episode to make it easy to find what you want. It also improves captions, making them more informative and fully customizable.
If you haven't used Theater View, give it a try. Hit the F11 key a couple of times. It's a great interface for viewing from across the room, especially suitable for use with one of the many remote controls available:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/RemotesWindows 8 and SurfaceWindows 8 is out now and JRiver Media Center 18 works well with it. Surface RT, Microsoft's new tablet is not the same, so regular Windows programs won't run on it. We believe that Surface Pro should run MC and other Windows apps.
Android SupportAndroid continues to grow and MC's Gizmo works well with all the latest versions. You can use MC to sync your files to the phones and tablets. Video playback works well, with several bandwidth choices.
DSDJRiver Media Center 18 now offers DSD encoding and general DSD support that works with the leading hardware.
You can find high quality audio content at web sites like Channel Classics and Blue Coast Records. More here:

ThanksIt was a great year for JRiver, thanks to you. We wish you a very Happy New Year.
Thanks AgainI've written most of our newsletters, but I've signed them on behalf of JRiver. This time I'm signing my own name and adding this personal note. I started JRiver in 1981. It's been a lot of fun and very rewarding. But I'm getting older, slower, and dumber, so I've turned over the leadership role to Matt Ashland, our CTO. I plan to continue to work and to assist Matt and JRiver, but I'll be around a little less. You can read more here:
