The version that is available via jriver.com is 18.0.103 it was downloaded from there. You wouldn't get my registration info from here  because the full product was purchased from a e-mail address that contains my real name. In the interests of privacy I will retain that, however I will PM it to you.

We haven't had others report crashes in JRPlayer.dll at startup. 

Does installing the latest again over the top help?

Is the program configured to play automatically as soon as it launches?

Does the program run long enough to turn on logging (Help > Logging)?  Or to turn off startup playback (if it's enabled)?

I'm actually experiencing this as of late.  Was thinking it was due to some of my plugins, but even with it disabling -- JRiver seems to be crashing randomly.

Mine's not on Windows 8 64 bit; however, Windows Server 2012 x64 bit is the same architecture.  I'll see if I can get a log generated.

EDIT:  I also need to mention that mine (three installations) are all installed fresh on new server.  Not upgraded.

Hi Matt,

Sorry it takes me so long between replies, I have had a fairly serious accident and need to rest up as much as I can.

The player is set as the default player for all audio files but nothing else. Apart from that everything is default. Applications like Windows Media Player function Normally however they cannot playback FLAC containers.Ihave tried installing on top off itself but this yields the same result. I have also uninstalled then manually went to the applications directories to ensure they were removed before installing once more.

The application functions for a few seconds, but long enough to enable logging. If you can tell me where the log files is kept I will post it too. However its only a matter of time until the same problem occurs. The OS is essentially a default Windows 8 install, the only other thing installed is the Mass Effect Trilogy. Much obliged for your help.


Koshia: Server 2012 x64 is based on the same kernel as Windows 8, its not surprising that you would experience a similar issue if you experienced problems.

I am also running MC18 on Windows 8, 64 bit with no crashes at all.

I have discovered the problem.

Media Centre 18 had decided to scan my disks for content despite not prompting me during the setup to configure this behaviour. It scanned a drive which stores some old video data and one particular file in a M4V container was causing the application to hang. The file is damaged and the header information corrupt needless to say when I removed the file the application worked.

I later went into the app and changed its library scanning behaviour. Please note NO APPLICATION should be scanning my computers drives by default on installation. This behaviour should only ever be configured and I hope to see this changed.

Most people would be intimidated if we asked them to configure everything in advance, so we go ahead and make some assumptions, but with import, we warn you what's happening.  We wait 45 seconds, then begin.  Even that gets missed sometimes.

Usually this works.  I'm sorry it didn't in your case.
