Catastrphic failure - DTV playback
« on: January 26, 2013, 06:43:23 pm »

Hi,
lately I have started getting "Catastrophic failure" messages during DTV playback. The video freezes and the audio just stutters. Nothing gets logged - just the system info below:

Media Center
    Install Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 18\
Interface Plugins: TiVo Server (not running)
    JRMark: never run
Library: 15026 files, 2.9 MB in library, 328 MB in thumbnails
Resources: 26.0 MB memory, 625 handles
    Version: 18.0.106.0 Registered
Memory
    Free Physical Memory: 10.1 GB
    Total Memory: 11.9 GB
Operating System
    Microsoft Windows 8 64-bit

Any suggestions on what could be going on appreciated.

I have a Core i5 system with 12GB RAM, SSD main drive and fast SATA for recording storage, ATI Radeon 7870 graphics, Gigabyte Ga-H57-USB3 motherboard with onboard Realtek hi definition codecs - out put via SP{DIF to my external amp. Tuners are silicondust HD Homeruns.

Nothing obvious in Windows 8 event viewer to say what's going on.

Just started happening about 3 to 4 days ago.

All advice appreciated :-)

Anthony

If it just started out of the blue, it could be failing hardware.

It's worth trying to update your video drivers.

Make sure the computer and video card fans are running.

Also, try playing audio only and see if that's stable.
