Audio breakups in DVD playback
« on: February 06, 2013, 07:52:52 pm »

I am having audio breakups (crackling voices) constantly during video playback.  Windows Media Player plays the same DVD with the same hardware without any audio problems.  The Media Center plays my flac audio files without any problem.  Seems to me there is some software setting that I need to adjust with the Media Center.  Can anyone instruct me?

What version are you using?  18.0.129 is at the top of this board.

What kind of audio hardware do you have, and what mode (WASAPI, WASAPI Event Style, etc) are you using MC in?  Does it make any difference if you increase (or decrease) the hardware buffer size (Options > Audio > Output mode settings)?

I am using version 18.0.106.  Message says Media Center is up to date.  I use WASAPI.  I use a Musical Fidelity V-DAC 24/96.  Increasing buffer size does not help.

OK, I think the solution for me is to use WASAPI Event rather than WASAPI.  At least, it worked with the DVD I had laying nearby.  I hope this suggestion may help other people who are in a similar situation.

Yes.  WASAPI Event Style is generally preferred to "vanilla" WASAPI, if it works right with your hardware.  Try that first, and only switch to the "vanilla" one if you need to for compatibility reasons.
