Mac version & MC18 License
« on: February 13, 2013, 08:01:01 am »

I believe I read somewhere that version 18 users of MC were eligible for a free version of MC Mac.  If that's true, do we wait until MC Mac is available and then apply our MC18 license?

TIA  :)

Not true.
Not that I don't believe you, but what I read was in the thread that posted the download and purchase links ... which I can no longer find(?)   :P

There has been no download link published yet.

glynor is correct.  The licenses are separate.  Right now the Mac version is half price for anybody.

I believe you, and I do realize MC Mac cannot be downloaded until Feb 22 ... but I'm wondering what I mis-read ... it was something about current users of MC18 for Windows.  It's like there was a thread here yesterday, that isn't here today (... or, maybe it's me ... I'm having my senior moments more & more these days).  There is a post (somewhere) that provided the purchase link, if not the purchase link and the download link?

Ok ... Ok ... I'm off to purchase MC Mac (... if I can just find that links again ...)

Edit: Ohhhhh ... I get it ... the Mac version starts with v18!! .... ohhhh wellll  :)

I made the same mistake after reading an email titled "MC Mac -- The Early Bird Special" sent by JRiver yesterday. I had to read it four times to understand I needed to buy a new license, which I did!  ;D

That's right! ... it was in the email!  Quoting ...

Quote
If you're a Windows user, and not a Mac user, we still have something
for you.  If you own a license for JRiver Media Center 18, you can download
the latest build free of charge.

Hey! ... I'm not nuts!!  :D

Well, that remains to be seen.  ;) ;D

But that quote from the email makes perfect sense to me:  "If you are a Windows user: Nothing to see here, your Windows version is the same as it ever was."  If you interpret it the way you were thinking about it, you're ignoring some cognitive dissonance in the statement:

Quote
If you're a Windows user, and not a Mac user, we still have something
for you.  If you own a license for JRiver Media Center 18, you can download
the latest build free of charge.

If you are a Windows user, and not a Mac user, then you wouldn't be able to USE the Mac version, so the "you can download the latest build free of charge" part obviously cannot refer to the new OSX version, but refers to a new build of the Windows version you had before.  In other words, that statement just meant: "Don't worry, we aren't switching to become a Mac-only development shop.  We're still working on Windows MC at the same time."

Though, I can see why you might have been confused by that, I suppose.  Mostly it was just excited, though.  ;)

In any case, the MacOSX version of MC is licensed separately.  I think that's totally fair.  It's a massive project.

No problem with that ... someone's gotta pay for getting it past just a player, and able to hook up with the MC18 (Windows) media server!! ::)
